POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Lead Indigenous Museum Educator, you will oversee our Indigenous Education team, which includes full-time and part-time Indigenous Museum Educators, interns, and contract staff. Working under the guidance of the Manager of Indigenous Learning and Programs and in collaboration with the Full-time Bilingual Teacher, you will deliver engaging educational programming that reflects Indigenous knowledge and perspectives. By employing pedagogical approaches and teaching strategies that cater to learners\' needs and experiences, you will ensure that our educational initiatives are relevant and responsive.

In this role, you will work closely with a cohesive team of Indigenous Museum Educators, Museum Educators, and Digital Learning staff. Together, you will create a vibrant community dedicated to developing and presenting programs that captivate students and teachers in museum learning. You will actively participate in training sessions, continuously learning and applying your cultural knowledge and skills to develop and deliver educational programming for children, youth, and adults.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate engaging educational experiences in galleries and hands-on labs.
  • Supervise the Indigenous Education team, including scheduling, assigning work, training, and fostering a sense of community.
  • Develop and deliver relevant and responsive online and in-person educational programming based on Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design, develop, and report on programs and projects.
  • Provide leadership guidance to the online learning projects and staff, ensuring the accuracy and cultural relevance of content.
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous Education and Digital Learning teams to develop and implement workshops both in-person and online.
  • Contribute to the cohesive approach of school program development and delivery, incorporating Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentor colleagues to enhance teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with other museum educators and digital learning staff to develop a comprehensive approach to learning at ROM.
  • Support lab and gallery operations, including setting up equipment and responding to emergencies when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing or supervising work with an Indigenous focus, including staff oversight, project management, and client relationships.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience delivering Indigenous-focused programming.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in collective, committee, or board management.
  • A 4-year degree from an accredited post-secondary institution specializing in Indigenous Studies or Education, or equivalent knowledge and experience. An Ontario Teaching Certificate would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in formal or cultural educational settings, demonstrating the ability to develop and deliver engaging educational experiences rooted in Indigenous knowledge and perspectives.
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum and a solid understanding of human development from Indigenous perspectives.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, along with conflict management abilities.
  • Proficiency in utilizing digital, audio, and visual technologies to enhance educational experiences.
  • First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis, or Inuit ancestry is considered a significant asset.
  • Oral and written fluency in French would be considered an asset.

SALARY/HOURLY RATE: $34.95 - $39.94 (Provisional)

SCHEDULE: up to 35 hours

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 420 hours or six (6) months (whichever comes first)
