Lead Hand – Landscape Maintenance

Job Description

As a Lead Hand, you'll work alongside the Foreman to oversee daily operations on-site, mentor your crew, and help deliver high-quality landscaping projects that reflect our Core Values:

What You'll Do:


- Support the Foreman in supervising the crew, assigning tasks, and maintaining quality standards across all sites.
-Perform core landscaping duties, including mowing, trimming, weeding, edging, mulching, bed maintenance, and seasonal clean-ups.
-Read and interpret site maps to ensure all tasks are completed to client specifications.
-Operate, inspect, and maintain landscaping equipment; perform basic troubleshooting and minor repairs.
-Identify site hazards and complete daily FLHAs; contribute to weekly safety meetings.
-Track crew hours in LMN and begin learning how to recognize extra billing items.
-Mentor crew members on landscaping techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols.
-Monitor plant health, identify weeds, pests, and nutrient issues, and report or address concerns.
-Safely drive the crew truck and trailer to job sites, ensuring proper load securement.
-Suggest site improvements from a client-focused perspective to enhance overall appearance.
-Be prepared to step in as Foreman when required, ensuring consistent site operations.

Winter Work

Responsibilities:



Respond promptly to snow and ice events. Manual snow removal using shovels, scrapers, and snow blowers. Sweep or blow walkways clear of snow and ice. Apply ice melt products. Use hand tools, power tools, and small engine equipment. Recordkeeping of work completed at each site.

Requirements:



Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly Work independently and as part of a team Strong multitasking and prioritization skills Safely work around heavy equipment Physical ability for outdoor work in cold weather Reliable transportation to meet at site. Previous snow removal experience is an asset

What You Bring:



Experience & Education



3+ years in landscape maintenance or equivalent education

Leadership



-Training in leadership, crew motivation, conflict resolution
-Strong communication and team-building focus

Horticulture



Plant/weed ID, plant health basics, fertilizer use

Safety & Compliance



Knowledge of SiteDocs, FLHA, and load securement

Administration



Skilled with LMN timesheets and Fleetio inspections, or other apps

Certifications



NALP LICT - Exterior or Alberta Landscape Horticulturist Apprenticeship (Level 1)

Equipment



Troubleshooting, basic maintenance (sharpening, greasing)

Physical/Practical



Lift 50 lbs, work outdoors year-round Valid driver's license + personal vehicle
