About the Role

In this hands-on/leadership position, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations related to the maintenance of the facility\xe2\x80\x99s electrical systems and for the installation, and repair of all electrical devices and equipment.

Reporting to the Area Supervisor Facilities, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Electrical Maintenance Team, including the effective and efficient use of physical, financial and human resources within the department\xe2\x80\x99s budgetary guidelines. The Electrician Lead Hand will primarily be based at Bethany Calgary but could be required to assist other Bethany sites when necessary

What You Will Do

  • Establishes/maintains processes to ensure ongoing, routine and/or planned maintenance work at the sites.
  • Liaises with the administrator during Supervisor absence to ensure the needs of the site are being addressed in a timely manner.
  • Supports the maintenance team by assisting them in repairs, maintains, or replaces switches, receptacles, electrical outlets, ballasts, electrical motors, and fixtures as needed.
  • Supports the maintenance team by assisting them during the maintenance and repairs of electrical system, wiring and appliances.
  • Sets priorities and provides overall direction to the workforce including ongoing staff training and meeting educational needs.
  • Demonstrates initiative in maintaining and improving the quality of maintenance services.
  • Identifies equipment maintenance and replacement needs and ensure adherence to these schedules.
  • Develops standardized protocols for selected Bethany-wide practices, e.g. regulated annual inspections.
  • Implements standardized protocols for select Bethany\xe2\x80\x93wide practices.
  • Determines the need for contracted service versus the use of in-house personnel.
  • Maintains and promotes effective working relationships with contracted service representatives.
  • Clarifies performance expectations with contracted service representatives.
  • Performs ongoing operational administration with contracts.
  • Addresses performance issues in a timely manner with contracted service personnel.
  • Responsible for conducting direct report\xe2\x80\x99s performance review, and assist with hiring and terminations
  • Establishes/maintains authorization protocols for procurement supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors and manages operating and project costs.
  • Understands and applies collective agreements appropriately.
What You Bring
  • Grade 12 education or recognized equivalent
  • Previous experience as an Electrician in the maintenance and repair field in a hospital or large facility environment
  • Minimum 2 years supervisory/management experience
  • Preferred minimum of 2 years of experience as a Building Operator in a facility
  • Experience with budgetary and accounting procedures pertaining to building, equipment and life supports systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office; especially Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Project Management experience is considered an asset
  • Flexible schedule and availability for emergencies and be available for on call coverage (rotation)
Professional Registration
  • Electrician\xe2\x80\x99s Certification, Master\xe2\x80\x99s preferred
  • Fire Alarm Certification
Additional Skills
  • Able to work effectively in a physically and mentally demanding environment
  • Must demonstrate an acceptable level of reading, writing, and comprehension of English language skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license

  • FTE: 1.00
  • Position Type: Full-Time Permanent
  • Shifts: Monday-Friday, 08:00-16:15
  • Hours of Work/Shift Per Cycle: 10 shifts in a 2 week rotation
