Your Opportunity:

The Lead Hand - Electrical is a supervisory position responsible for the supervision of all duties of the Hospital Facilities Tradesmen/Technologists and Maintenance Workers. In addition, the Lead Hand supports and develops Lean initiatives within the team. The Lead Hand performs all duties of their particular trade as required depending on operational needs. The Lead Hand reports to appropriate Manager/Director. Assists teams and contractors in assessing, planning and scheduling work in conjunction with the maintenance planner. Closely monitors work backlog prioritizes work requisitions, both preventative and corrective (demand), keeping backlog at a minimum. Performs regular inspections on projects done by internal staff and outside contractors. Meet and liaison with internal customers, suppliers, vendors, contractors, etc. Reviews shop drawings and ensures projects are completed to facility Construction Standards and Guidelines. Generates cost estimates and schedules for Facilities Management work, coordinates projects as assigned. Feeds back the progress of group initiatives to the team, management and Lean Steering Committee by participating in and supporting the Lean Steering Committee meetings and initiatives. Ensures workshop and work area cleanliness, organization and upkeep (minor repairs to shop equipment etc.) 5S principles. Responsible for the proper operation and care of equipment, tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Supports and drives processes to make certain all safety procedures are up-to-date and adhered to by staff. Ensures the employees practice safe work habits. Orientates new staff and ensures all staff are competently trained and informed of policy and procedural changes within area of responsibility. Ensures team adheres to Infection Control Procedures. Other duties as assigned by Manager/Director.

Description:

As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff. In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility. In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Trade Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Additional Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent. Must possess an Alberta Journeyman Certificate in a relevant trade or a two-year Engineering Technologist Diploma from an accredited college. Must have five years maintenance experience in a hospital setting. Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent progressive responsibility in a trade. Must have prior experience and comprehensive knowledge relating to all aspects of assigned responsibilities. Must be familiar with writing and reading blueprints and schematics. Prior experience in supervising/managing a multi-trade team in a Lead hand or equivalent role. Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in related areas is an asset. Alberta Master Electrician Certification is an asset.
