The Opportunity:
Branksome Hall is seeking a Lead Facilitator, App Development to lead our App Lab program within our Slingshot Innovation Academy. This program provides grades 7-10 aged youth with the opportunity to develop industry-relevant skills in design, coding, and launching applications across various platforms.
App Development is focused on empowering youth with the confidence, skills and mindset to turn ideas into applications, shifting the focus from using technology to creating. Through mentorship and hands-on problem-solving, they'll learn to design an application, then code it, and launch it with APIintegrated, through the three levels of curriculum.
The Lead Facilitator will report into the Director, Camps and Slingshot and serve as a professional representative of Branksome Hall, actively embodying the school's values of creativity, inclusiveness, sense of community, and making a difference. The role will oversee 1-3 Mentors based on the class size, coaching them to guide students through the app development process.
The program will run from July 6th - 17th and again August 17th - 28th on a full-time basis during program execution. The successful candidate can be available for one or both programs. If you are unable to commit to both programs, please indicate which one you're available for in your application.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Collaborate closely with the Director, Mentors and other stakeholders in the smooth execution of the App Development curriculum.
Lead and execute structured, high-energy, program sessions, following the curriculum provided.
Facilitate interactive learning modules, hands-on, and experiential activities designed to teach design thinking, coding, and integration principles.
Guide students through the different programming languages and support application of their learnings to hands-on coding projects.
Provide targeted, constructive, and actionable feedback to students leveraging personal experience to encourage problem solving through the app development process.
Oversee mentors and coach them on how to best guide and support students through technical learning and the app development process with the goal of final project completion
Support the identification and management of behavioral, interpersonal, or social-emotional challenges among students with professionalism, consistency, and empathetic resolution techniques.
Support the logistics for any off-site excursions or specialized sessions, including the final showcase for parents and the community.
Candidate Profile:
Proficiency in Python Programming and familiarity with libraries such as Pandas and Matplotlib
Familiarity with app wireframing tools, Figma is an asset
Experience with App Development concepts, including large language models and API integrations
Experience as a teacher or working with youth in extra-curricular or summer programs, specifically with Grade 7-10 students is an asset
Ability to break down complex technical concepts into engaging and interactive lessons
Passion of fostering creativity, innovation, critical thinking, and inclusiveness in education
Knowledgeable in core technological programming, languages, and frameworks
Strong organizational skills in daily lesson preparation, scheduling, and logistical coordination
Adapt to conflict resolution and behaviour management strategies applied to a classroom setting
Guiding students through the app development process posing thought provoking questions, curiously challenging their assumptions, and encouraging them to think critically and deeply with their ideas
Experience with various innovative technologies to support student teams
Target Hiring Range: $2,000 - $2,500 Weekly
