HRYCAY Consulting Engineers Inc. (HCEI), a leading Canadian forensic engineering firm providing accident investigation and analysis services for over 30 years in Canada and the United States, is seeking a Forensic Engineer to lead Forensic investigations in the area of motor vehicle accident reconstruction and analysis for the purpose of resolving claims and legal disputes.
Working under the direction of senior management, the successful candidate will lead forensic investigations from intake to completion including the planning and performance of field work, delegating tasks to support staff, leading the forensic analysis and preparation of reports, communicating with clients, and testifying in judicial matters.
Requirements & Desired Qualifications
Must be willing to relocate to within 40 minutes drive of Windsor, ON
Must be eligible to work in Canada and the USA
Ability to travel freely (including, but not limited to, renting cars and travelling on commercial flights)
Must have completed post-secondary education in the field of Mechanical Engineering
7+ years of experience in the field of Automotive Accident Reconstruction
Must have a P.Eng designation
5+ years of experience of forensic data collection
Strong oral and written communication skills
Computer proficiency with AutoCad, Rhino (2D & 3D software), MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Must possess a valid Canadian passport or Government Issued Landed Immigrant Card and driver's license with no travel restrictions
Completion of forensic accident reconstruction courses (CDR, SAE Accident Reconstruction)
Able to qualify as an expert witness in judicial matters (depositions, trials)
Knowledge of heavy commercial and/or automotive mechanical systems particularly in regards to braking systems and/or on-board computer diagnostic components
Precise and detail oriented with an inquisitive mind for solving technical problems
Ability to manage time and meet deadlines
Able to work in hot and cold conditions
Able to delegate work to team members
Duties and Responsibilities
Travel to various locations in Canada and throughout the USA to complete vehicle and site inspections
Communicate with clients during file intake to determine the scope of the work to be performed
Planning field work, including work to be performed and logistics (determination of vehicle location and availability)
Planning and budgeting for litigation support files
Conducting forensic investigations individually or by delegating tasks to support engineers, including:
o Accident site documentation and surveying
o Vehicle inspections
o Vehicle module imaging
o Accident specific data collection (ex. Source of fire, visualization studies, camera matching studies)
Conducting engineering analysis, including:
o Accident site roadway evidence analysis
o Vehicle dynamics analysis
o Position-time history analysis including the interpretation of electronic data
o Vehicle fitness analysis
o Accident specific analysis (seat-belt investigations, dashcam and surveillance video analysis, etc.)
Specialization in a particular area of Accident Reconstruction (biomechanics, fire investigations, etc) developed through:
o Relevant courses
o Research & Development
o Attendance and presentation at conferences
Completing analysis memos for review by senior management, completing reports for clients
Communication with clients both verbally and in writing
Trial and deposition testimony
Client development including planning and attending trade shows and client events
Other duties as assigned
