Our Team

Our Newfoundland and Labrador Operations are an integrated mining, milling, and processing operation. Nickel concentrate from the fly-in, fly-out Voisey\xe2\x80\x99s Bay operation is shipped to our state-of-art Long Harbour Processing Plant where it is refined into low-carbon and high-purity nickel rounds, cobalt rounds and copper cathodes.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Emergency Response Leads to join the VNL Health, Safety and Risk Department operating in Long Harbour, NL. This permanent position will be on a 4x10s schedule (Monday to Thursday OR Tuesday to Friday) working at the Long Harbour Operations site in Long Harbour, NL.

The Emergency Response Leads will be responsible for the execution of the site Emergency Response Plan at the Long Harbour Operations site. As a team you will provide uninterrupted continuity of the emergency response plan ensuring incident command is in place for a broad range of response scenarios including fire, gas response, loss of containment of hazardous materials, and dam/water retaining structure failure.

In this position, you will

  • Adhere to the site Emergency Response Plan for all response scenarios at the Long Harbour Operations site and lead a team of Auxiliary Emergency Response Team (AERT) members in all emergency scenarios including but not limited to, fire, gas response, loss of containment of hazardous materials, dam/water retaining structure failure, environmental response, etc...
  • Provide leadership and technical support to all AERT members on shift ensuring necessary resources are on site and available to respond. Also train and check competency of the AERT members in accordance with the AERT training program. Also, responsible to enter training records in Vale Education System (VES).
  • Conduct announced and unannounced drills in accordance with site drill response plan including emergency evacuation and shelter-in-place.
  • Ensure readiness of all emergency response assets through daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checks and inspections. Maintain emergency response equipment to applicable legislative requirements.
  • Check and troubleshoot fire alarm panel issues. Support third party testing of fire alarm equipment and systems.
  • Ensure 24-hour continuity of Emergency Response Incident Command on site through shift hand over and on call support.
  • Provide technical support and guidance for out of service fire protection equipment or system.
About You

Education
  • College Diploma - 1021 Fire Officer or NFPA or equivalent is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational, Health & Safety, or related technical discipline is considered an asset.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a similar role.
Skills
  • Supervisory experience in an industrial high paced work environment.
  • Competent knowledge of applicable OH&S and NFPA legislation.
  • Familiar with NFPA codes based on fire protection systems.
  • Experience delivering in class and practical training in an industrial environment.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral).
  • Able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, and leadership qualities.
  • Able to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
