Position Overview
The
Lead Electrician
will serve as Sustainabuild's in-house expert for all residential electrical systems. This role is both technical and leadership-focused: overseeing electrical design, layout, drawings, installation, and integration into panelized construction systems.
The Lead Electrician will collaborate closely with the management team, site managers, and other trades to ensure electrical systems are safe, efficient, code-compliant, and seamlessly integrated into our modular and on-site builds. This role also includes mentoring and developing junior electricians, establishing electrical standards within the company, and contributing to innovation in off-site electrical integration.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Layout
Lead electrical design and layout for residential construction projects.
Create and review electrical drawings and schematics for compliance and accuracy.
Work with management and design teams to integrate electrical systems into panelized wall, floor and roof systems.
Ensure electrical designs meet Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations.
Installation & Integration
Oversee and perform electrical installation for new builds, renovations, and modular panel systems.
Coordinate electrical systems with HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry teams to ensure efficient workflows.
Implement innovative solutions for off-site electrical integration in panels and factory-built assemblies.
Conduct inspections and testing to verify electrical system safety and performance.
Leadership & Mentorship
Supervise, train, and mentor junior electricians and apprentices.
Develop internal standards and best practices for electrical installation and safety.
Assign tasks, oversee productivity, and ensure high-quality workmanship.
Act as the key point of contact for electrical systems across all projects.
Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely with project managers, site managers, and head office to align electrical scope with overall project plans.
Assist in budgeting, estimating, and procurement of electrical materials and equipment.
Attend coordination meetings with the management team and other trades.
Provide recommendations to improve efficiency, quality, and safety in electrical workflows.
Qualifications
Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician Certificate (required).
5+ years of electrical experience in residential or commercial construction.
2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.
Proficiency in reading and creating electrical drawings, schematics, and layouts.
Strong knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and local PEI regulations.
Experience with modular, panelized, or off-site electrical integration is an asset.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites.
Skills & Abilities
Advanced electrical design and installation skills.
Strong leadership and mentoring ability for developing junior electricians.
Effective communication and coordination across trades and management.
Problem-solving mindset with a focus on safety and innovation.
Ability to balance field installation with design and planning responsibilities.

Work Environment
Factory: Indoor environment with exposure to tools, machinery, and equipment
On-Site: Outdoor construction sites with exposure to varying weather, dust, and noise.
