Job Description


Job Title: Lead Electrical EngineerManage electrical engineering services that meet client, customer, and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget. Oversee electrical engineering project requirements and services, including participation in relevant meetings, preparation of progress reports, and compliance with required checking procedures. Act as the electrical engineering Lead on specific projects and resolve discrepancies between client and customer requirements. Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering, and support junior personnel within the electrical engineering team.Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical engineering services that meet client specifications on time and within budget.
  • Oversee electrical engineering project requirements.
  • Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and comply with required checking procedures.
  • Ensure project scope is clear and changes comply with project change management processes.
  • Provide advice during engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
  • Act as the electrical engineering Lead on specific projects.
  • Outline project requirements, assign tasks, and supervise progress.
  • Ensure required services meet client and statutory and regulatory requirements on time and within budget.
  • Resolve discrepancies between client and customer requirements.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments and technical innovations in electrical engineering.
  • Assist and support junior personnel within the electrical engineering team.
  • Communicate effectively with the electrical engineering team and project stakeholders.
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other disciplines and the client.
  • Support quality assurance and verification role on engineering deliverables.
  • Participate in the professional development of less experienced team members.
Essential Skills
  • Knowledge of HV/MV Substation (Indoor/Outdoor), Substation communication architecture, including teleprotection, telemetry, protection Relay setting/programming, ESCADA, and experience in similar projects.
  • Excellent technical and practical engineering skills with the ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate, and timely work.
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamental requirements of electrical engineering and basic requirements of other engineering fields.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory specifications.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and electrical engineering-specific software.
  • Extensive technical and practical experience in electrical engineering in the same or similar industry, including experience in multi-disciplinary projects and teams.
  • 10-15 years of engineering experience in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of Instrumentation and experience in the Minerals and Metals industry would be an asset.
  • Strong experience with deliverables such as Single line diagrams, schematics, interconnection and wiring diagrams, lighting and grounding layouts, cable routing design, Substation and MCC design, area classification per code requirements, Electrical Heat Tracing, and electrical calculations.
  • Experience with HVAC, Ventilation, and Fire Alarm/control systems.
  • Revamp and grassroots project experience.
  • Preparation of Specifications and Contract Documentation.
  • Knowledge of Power System Design/Studies and ETAP/SKM.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer-Aided Design and SmartPlant Electrical software.
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, primarily in refining/petrochemicals.
  • 5+ years of experience in a lead role managing projects and teams.
  • P.Eng license.
  • Experience with Power system studies using ETAP and SKM.
  • Experience managing at least 5 individuals (drafters, designers, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to present solutions, and defend engineering solutions.
  • Experience with ETAPs, SKM, and lighting calculations.
  • Experience reviewing designs more frequently than creating them.
  • Experience with Single line diagrams, schematics, interconnection and wiring diagrams, heat tracing calculations, Substation and MCC Design, area classification per code requirements, and working with Canadian Electrical codes.
  • Experience with layouts, lighting and grounding, cable routing design calculations, and basic distribution cable calculations.
Work EnvironmentThe work location is in Sarnia with an office capacity of up to 100 individuals across multiple engineering disciplines. The role involves travel to customer sites around Chemical Valley (Sarnia), with refineries located 10-15 minutes from each other. The working model includes 4 days a week in the office and one day at home (Fridays are work-from-home). The standard workweek is 40 hours, with core hours from 9 AM to 4 PM.
