Your Opportunity:

The Fitness and Performance program at the Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education (FKPE) o\xef\xac\x80ers participants a comprehensive, integrated Fitness and Performance experience with clear learning outcomes, positioning the University of Toronto Sport and Rec as a leader in wellness, physical activity and high performance programming. The Fitness and Performance program will o\xef\xac\x80er sport, physical activity and recreation opportunities, which seamlessly integrate FKPE research, practice and experiential learning to meet the needs of a broad range of participants. Fitness and Performance services will create a holistic experience for participants through all the phases of their physical activity journey, assuming high quality standards and an understanding that will satisfy customer needs.

The Program will provide sta\xef\xac\x80 with the training and tools to deliver an outstanding curriculum in Fitness and Performance with an emphasis on learning outcomes that will enhance physical and mental wellness, contribute to academic success and create a foundation for healthy active living while at the university and post-graduation.

Reporting to the Manager, Fitness and Performance, the incumbent is responsible for design, implementation and evaluation of student and community members-focused group fitness training. The incumbent will also be responsible to develop programs and partnerships with University groups external to Sport and Rec, with a revenue-generating and wellness promotion mandate. The incumbent will bring an entrepreneurial perspective to program development and promotion.

The incumbent collaboratively develops and implements the University\'s Fitness and Performance (F&P) sta\xef\xac\x80 development and training program. This training program will coach sta\xef\xac\x80 to deliver Fitness and Performance programs that are in line with established standards and based on clearly de\xef\xac\x81ned learning outcomes for participants that integrate research, practice and experiential learning.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Recruiting, training, direct supervision, and evaluation of group fitness instructors
  • Formulating and executing strategies to grow revenue generating and wellness promotion opportunities with external to Sport and Rec partners
  • Promoting and delivering meaningful and sustainable participation opportunities for key stakeholders within the University and the community
  • Collaborating to develop practices and procedures related to exemplary customer service that is student centered and evaluates user needs to promote health and well-being
  • Coaching and instructing other coaches, instructors, students, high-performance athletes and members within the Fitness and Performance (F&P) program including; Intercollegiate team F&P training, drop-in and registered individual and group recreational F&P training
  • Assisting in integrating and embedding sport and exercise science, wellness, research and program development, planning and delivery across the Performance and Fitness portfolio
  • Fostering and maintaining key partnerships within, and external to the University
  • Collaborating with F&P team members to design and implement a comprehensive sport \xef\xac\x81tness and performance plan and evaluation framework
  • Tracking and reporting on key operational metrics determined by departmental leadership
  • Developing and delivering Strength and Conditioning workshops, participant orientations, personal training, external client/team training and community programming
Quali\xef\xac\x81cations:

Essential Quali\xef\xac\x81cations:
  • University degree preferably in kinesiology/physical education or combination of equivalent experience Certi\xef\xac\x81ed Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) or equivalent certification is required
  • Minimum of \xef\xac\x81ve years \xef\xac\x81tness and performance coaching experience in a sport team environment or a comparable recreation setting
  • Minimum three years\' experience managing a large \xef\xac\x81tness and performance team, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Three years\' experience designing and implementing sta\xef\xac\x80 development and training programs relating to sport \xef\xac\x81tness and performance including establishing and providing clear learning outcomes
  • Experience creating and promoting revenue generating programs for participants with a wide range of skill levels, abilities. and goals
  • Experience integrating and embedding sport and exercise science, wellness, research and program development, planning and delivery across a broad \xef\xac\x81tness and performance portfolio
  • Two years experience with budget management
  • Must demonstrate exemplary leadership as an ambassador and advocate for physical activity and recreation
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills that support consensus building and shared decision-making
  • Proven problem solving, analysis and negotiation skills
  • Proven skills in training and mentoring large sta\xef\xac\x80 contingents
  • Leadership abilities in the creation of a welcoming and engaging environment that is supported through exemplary customer experience building
  • Ability to act on issues/problems/initiatives involving equity and diversity
  • Must be able to maintain con\xef\xac\x81dentiality when managing sensitive information
