Key Responsibilities

Plans, directs, and coordinates on-site engineering and construction activities of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Manage key field staff responsible for project construction related engineering duties as they relate to temporary and permanent engineering works
  • Ability to evaluate data and design specifications in a high paced environment and interpret job cost reports to make decisions on schedule, and major equipment selection
  • Ability to explore, analyze and develop the most innovative, cost effective and safe construction means-and-methods in order to execute the project
  • Skilled in preparing detailed and complex construction procedures (land and marine based) as well as temporary works design for a wide variety of structure types, (concrete and steel)

  • Directs and coordinates activities of field engineering personnel to ensure project progresses safely, on schedule, within all quality standards, and within prescribed budget
  • Point of Contact with the Engineer of Record (EOR) and interfaces with the main Designer as the Main Bridge advances from design concept to construction.
  • Monitor construction schedule, cost and quality, using job cost reports and other various documents to ensure project goals are met
  • Prepare and reviews status reports prepared by project staff and evaluates if deliverable schedules require modification by the EOR, and various sub-consultants.
  • Reviews shop drawings and work plans of various sub-consultants and suppliers ensuring that compliance is met with all Project plans and specifications.
  • Prepare a workable schedule and engineering deliverable list for all temporary and permanent works to achieve project goals
  • Coordinate multi-phases and tasks of the engineering department that liaisons with the construction operations
  • Reports directly to the Lead Construction Engineer and provides support to all construction operations on-site
  • Prepares project reports for management, client, or others
  • Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies
  • Set a productive, consistent, and acceptable work example
  • Provide positive safety leadership to the project
  • Conduct performance reviews with subordinates
  • Perform additional assignments per management\'s direction
  • Full understanding of QA-QC program & commitment to implementing into the work items
  • Point of contact on all Engineering and Design related topics with EOR, Owners Rep, Subcontractors & Suppliers
  • Able to assist the Project Director to conduct & chair meetings with Owners rep, Subs & Suppliers
  • Proficient in assisting the Project Director in negotiating terms & conditions, costs, & schedule matters with Owners rep, Sub, suppliers
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Bachelor\'s degree in civil engineering
  • 2-3 years of construction industry experience assigned to heavy civil, infrastructure projects.
  • 2-3 years\' experience working on cable stay bridge projects, including international experience.
  • 2-3 years of Joint-venture project experience on projects valued at over $1B Canadian.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a lead construction management position with the responsibility of overseeing a scope of work and a team of field or site engineers.
  • 2-3 years\' experience in construction of a cantilever bridge.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience to manage the longest cable stay bridge ever built in North America and coordinate a highly complex jump form system for the CIP concrete towers that make up the GHIB.
  • Previous coordination experience with TBM\'s.
  • Previous experience with setup, installation and operation of concrete precast factories for major scale infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience as a manager overseeing foundations on a bridge project.
  • Experience as Construction or Site Manager in structures, concrete and steel.
  • Experience using P6 software.
  • Previous foundations experience an asset.
  • Proficient in software related to construction industry as required.
  • Excellent Computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent team, interpersonal and communications skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with the client, field personnel and subcontractors.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of construction safety principles.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Target Base Salary - $180,000 - $230,000 /year CAD, 37.5 hours/week
