Reporting to the Program Manager Autonomous Haulage, the Specialist - Autonomous Operations will drive Teck\'s mine autonomy optimization effort with a focus on operating excellence in partnership with Teck\'s site operations groups, maintenance groups, centralized advanced analytics team, autonomy providers, and mining partners. Teck\'s mine autonomy program is rapidly growing with autonomous haulage currently scaling at 3 active operations with strong potential for expansion to new sites as well as expansion into new areas of the open pit value chain beyond haulage. This role will be vital to establishing alignment and consistency across Teck\'s operations through standard processes as well as coordinating a single voice to autonomy providers aimed at influencing the product development to suite Teck\'s operational needs from a safety and productivity perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor Teck\'s commitment to health, safety, and environmental as a core value
  • Establish and embed standard processes across Teck\'s operations with a \xe2\x80\x9cOne Teck\xe2\x80\x9d approach at the autonomous system configuration level, control & digital design level, training, and equipment operator level
  • Support and coordinate with site training groups to establish industry leading training programs inclusive of detailed and comprehensive training strategies, materials, procedures, delivery methods, and competency assessments
  • Support and embrace the RACE21 value delivery team to establish insights and opportunities from advanced analytics as well as the development of digital tools for use at Teck\'s operations
  • Support and develop mine design best practices supporting AHS performance across current and future deployments
  • Handle relationships and enhance collaboration with mining company peers to further common interests and aspirations in mining autonomy space
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of mining operations experience
  • A focus on mining autonomy including autonomous haulage system, autonomous drill system, etc. at the hands-on operational level
  • Minimum of a Bachelor\'s Degree in Mining, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Professional Engineer Designation (P.Eng) is an asset
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate cross functional teams and inspire new people in the industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as excellent oral and written communication skills, comfortable with Senior leader engagement
  • Proficient with autonomous command and control systems (Front Runner, Caterpillar Command, etc.)
  • Operational experience with mining autonomy is an asset
  • Solid understanding of mining industry fundamentals
  • Outstanding communication, with the ability to communicate points, and efficiently deliver a message in spoken or written form
  • Previous experience and understanding of effective change management
  • Able to build relationships easily with individuals of a diverse set of backgrounds
  • Adaptable and comfortable with working in ambiguous and unstructured settings
  • Problem solving; able to coordinate sophisticated problems, frame analysis, and arrive at conclusions quickly
  • Driven to work independently and deliver work products to timelines
  • Able to work efficiently and build relationships with people from across collaborators, departments, companies, etc.
  • Bias for action; seeks to move from analysis to action as quickly as possible
