Sanelli Law Group (SLG) is seeking to hire an articling student. SLG practice covers a broad range of immigration and refugee work, including refugee protection, inadmissibility and removal, family sponsorships, appeals, and applications for judicial review. Candidates must have a J.D. or LL.B degree and be eligible to article in Ontario.
The ideal candidate will have:
Demonstrated experience working with individuals facing marginalization, poverty, trauma, mental health challenges, or other precarious circumstances
Proven commitment to migrant rights and justice, or comparable socio-political advocacy
Strong interest in immigration and refugee law, or related fields such as human rights, administrative law, or constitutional litigation
Experience in litigation or other dynamic, high-pressure work environments
Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities
Strong interpersonal skills, characterized by empathy and professionalism.
Excellent time management and organizational capabilities
A professional demeanor supported by integrity and sound personal ethics

Obligations and duties as an articling student will include:
Legal Conducted legal research and drafted written submissions.
Prepared affidavits, statutory declarations, and detailed Basis of Claim narratives.
Completed application forms and accompanying cover letters for various immigration and refugee matters.
Compiled comprehensive disclosure packages, including country conditions and supporting documentation.
Utilized immigration portals to prepare, submit, and manage client applications efficiently.
Articling Term:
Winter 2026, ideally for a period of ten months
Start Date:
No later than January/February 2026
Hybrid:
Mostly Remote + 1 day a week in the Toronto office. The student will require access to an appropriate environment where they can work productively and with privacy. Opportunities to meet in-person for mentorship purposes will be provided, including attendance at in-person hearings.
The salary is as follows:
$50,000k - 55,000k per year base salary, pro-rated for the duration of the articling placement.
The employer will cover 50% of the articling program fees required by the Law Society of Ontario.
The student will be required to ensure they have appropriate technology to complete their job duties, including a computer.
10 days of paid vacation will be provided for placements of 10 months, in addition to statutory holidays, in accordance with the Law Society of Ontario's allowance of a maximum of 10 business days off within an articling placement.
The student will be expected to regularly work overtime, while noting that the demands of litigation at times require work outside of business hours. Work-life balance will be taken seriously.
As noted above, benefits are not provided.
Mentorship is a priority. By the end of the articling placement, the student should be well- positioned to enter the field of immigration and refugee law.
