One of our major Banking clients is looking for a Banking or Financial Law Clerk (Major Bank)
Length: 16 Months contract with the possibility of extension
Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid (2 Days Onsite)
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm
LOB: Legal & Regulatory Compliance

ROLE MANDATE:
The e-Discovery Case Specialist manages all aspects of the discovery process including, legal holds, collections, reviews, and production of records for litigation and regulatory investigations ensuring that all aspects are conducted in a defensible manner and in line with established processes. The selected candidate will maintain and ensure compliance with the Enterprise`s policies and guidelines. They will perform a variety of skilled administrative duties and specialized legal procedures. Provides technical guidance to other members of the Legal Group as necessary. This is an ideal role for a junior law clerk/paralegal who is willing to learn and gain experience with an in-house e-discovery team at a top 5 bank.

GROUP CULTURE:
This is a maternity leave coverage. This is a team of 7, many with long-tenure in their roles and at the bank. The group is very collaborative and supportive of a healthy work/life balance. The candidate will have weekly check-ins with their reporting.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Manages multiple, simultaneous cases from initiation through to completion using state of the art technology and techniques;
- Works closely with litigators to determine the parameters of the discovery work to be performed including identification of custodians, search terms, and other factors relevant to the matter;
- Drafts and issues legal hold notices and monitors custodian responses;
- Conducts and documents custodian data source interviews;
- Instructs technicians on the set up of databases in e-Discovery review platforms and works with/trains legal counsel on the technology, including early case assessment tools;
- Maintains supporting documentation/chain of custody logs;
- Works with legal team to analyze and respond to e-Discovery requests in line with the principle of proportionality;
- Works with litigators to plan and implement review process including preparing workflows for internal or external review, drafting review instructions, managing 1st level reviews, 2nd level reviews by external counsel, and performing quality control checks of 1st level reviews;
- Monitors and reports on the status of case reviews;
- Coordinates the lifting of legal holds and associated closing processes;
- Answers questions and provides technical guidance and support to lawyers and other professionals on matters related to ediscovery;
- Develops and maintains relationships with lawyers and LOB contacts to ensure that needs are understood and met; acts as a liaison between the LOB and the Legal Group;
- Assist HM with regular metric reporting;
- Maintains confidentiality of enterprise and employee information; and
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

MUST-HAVE SKILLS:
- 1+ years of experience in the legal industry
- Law clerk or paralegal designation
- Proficient and comfortable with new technology
- Understands laws/legislation relevant to the practice area, legal terminology, forms and documents related to the litigation practice area
- Strong and effective written and oral communication skills
- Understands legal and technology terminology
- Accuracy, attention to detail, proof-reading and editing skills
- Basic accounting and math skills
- Good organizational skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Thrives in fast-paced and changing environment
- Willingness to take on responsibilities
- Proactive and able to work independently, as well as being team player
- E-discovery experience an asset
- Experience with relativity software nice to have
- Previous banking experience nice to have
