Full-time, Fixed Term | 37.5 hours/week | On-site - Edmonton | Term to September 30, 2027

About the Role





The STEP Language Instructor delivers workplace-focused English language instruction for adult newcomers with lower English proficiency who are preparing for employment. Instruction is CLB-aligned and focused on practical communication for job search, workplace interaction, and safety comprehension.



This role is part of the Employment & Language Pathways (STEP) team and reports to the Coordinator, Employment & Language Pathways.

What You'll Do





In this role, you will:


Deliver structured, learner-centred English language instruction for adult learners (typically

CLB 2-4

) using task-based and practical workplace scenarios. Plan and adapt lessons, learning activities, and materials aligned with CLB and STEP employment-focused outcomes. Assess learner needs and progress using appropriate CLB-aligned tools, and provide clear, constructive feedback. Maintain accurate attendance, assessment records, and learner progress documentation to support reporting and service quality. Collaborate with STEP colleagues (Career Practitioners and Employment Placement Specialists) to support coordinated learner pathways and referrals. Participate in program and organization-wide meetings, training, and shared planning that strengthens alignment and learner experience across services.

What You Bring (Required)





Please include:


Recognized TESL credential

meeting

TESL Canada and/or provincial affiliate standards (e.g., ATESL - Alberta)

(Interim or Permanent).

Two (2) years of experience

teaching adult ESL learners at varying proficiency levels, including delivering or adapting

CLB-aligned instruction

. Experience supporting newcomer, refugee, or other vulnerable adult learners, including learners with low literacy or limited formal education. Strong facilitation and communication skills with diverse learners, including the ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt in the moment. Proficiency with basic digital tools used in instruction and documentation (e.g., MS Office, Teams/Zoom).

Nice to Have (Assets)




Bachelor's degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field. Experience teaching workplace English / employment-focused language. Experience in community-based, settlement-focused, or employment-linked language programming.
