Job Title: Language Instructor - OBTP
Department: Skilled Trades
Location: Burlington In-person/Virtual
Schedule Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week until March 31, 2026, then 17.5 hours/week for 36 weeks/year.
End Date: March 31, 2027
Reports To: Program Coordinator, Skilled Trades
Position Type: New
The Language Instructor - OBTP will support participants in a 10-week skilled trades program by delivering targeted workplace language workshops and providing individualized coaching that builds the skills needed for success in the Canadian workplace. The instructor will also provide one-on-one language support tailored to learners with varying English levels, cultural backgrounds, and communication needs.
These are your responsibilities:
Teach in-person and on-line (as needed) classes according to program expectations and provide one-on-one coaching.
Assist in program curriculum design and updates.
Perform administrative tasks, including class attendance, case noting and client communication.
Check-in for learner language and engagement levels as well as workshop progress (hands-on).
Maintain a presence during hands-on shop training to support learners with language communication as needed.
Work closely with the Employment Specialist and Trades Instructor to determine individualized support strategies for clients.
Adapt coaching strategies to learners' varying English proficiency, educational backgrounds, and years of residence in Canada.
Support participants in understanding Canadian workplace culture, employer expectations, and professional behaviour.
Attend staff, department and other meetings as required.
Other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Lead and members of Centre for Skills Leadership Team.
What you need to bring to this job:
Familiarity with Canadian Language Benchmarks
TESL Ontario certification is an asset
Awareness of current market and workplace trends, especially as related to internationally trained professionals in the manufacturing industry is an asset
Demonstrated ability to provide an effective, stimulating learning environment for adults
Culturally sensitive experience with clients from a diverse background
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Excellent knowledge of current software applications such Zoom, Microsoft Suite and Google apps
General knowledge of first aid and safety needs required when working within the skilled trades environment
Experience with workplace training or experience in professional practice or industry an asset
