Language Assessor,

you will play a crucial role in helping immigrants and refugees improve their language skills and access the resources they need to thrive. If you're detail-oriented, communicative, and eager to make a lasting impact in the community, this is the opportunity for you!


Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will be responsible for evaluating clients' language skills using the Canadian Language Benchmarks Placement Assessment (CLBPA), determining class level placements, and providing referrals to LINC and ESL programs. You will conduct comprehensive English language proficiency assessments, evaluate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and ensure accurate class level placements. Key duties include maintaining accurate client records, generating assessment reports, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. The role also involves building partnerships with community organizations, representing the program at events, and contributing to reports and statistics. Additionally, the Assessor applies GBA+ principles to promote inclusive service delivery and supports data management while safeguarding client privacy. Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations is essential.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Linguistics, Social Sciences, or a related field, with at least 300 hours of recent adult ESL teaching experience in Canada. Familiarity with Canadian Language Benchmarks and LINC/Adult ESL programs is preferred, along with knowledge of language assessment processes and tools like CLARS and iCare.


The candidate must be adaptable, culturally sensitive, and capable of working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule, including travel and evening/weekend assessments. Additional assets include a First Aid certificate, a Class 5 Driver's License, and proficiency in multiple languages, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office.


This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.

An eligibility list may be maintained for up to six months. Eligible applicants may be offered a casual position.*
