I Can Dig It Gardening is seeking an experienced crew leader for landscaping maintenance and project work in the Comox Valley and surrounding communities. Once trained, this crew member will be self-reliant in the field, sometimes working alone or in roles supervising other staff.

Work hours and availability will vary seasonally, but candidates can expect to negotiate a role with 20-40hrs of work per week on Mondays to Fridays (never weekends) between the hours of 7AM and 5PM seasonally as daylight hours allow.

The successful applicant will have:

- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable vehicle

- OFA Level 1 First Aid (this cert could be funded by the employer to the right applicant)

- Weather-appropriate work clothing and CSA footwear

- Physical fitness and an active lifestyle - you will have no issue bending or kneeling for long periods of time, working on ladders with power tools, moving and carrying heavy objects

- An independent work ethic and a professional manner when speaking with clients (will require proficiency with the English language)

- Prior experience directing and supervising other workers

- Prior experience working outdoors in physically challenging roles, ideally in landscaping, farming, construction or forestry

- A strong aesthetic eye with a keen attention to detail - priority will be given to plant nerds and those seeking practical experience in the sphere of horticulture

- The ability to analyze and solve problems at hand using logic and creativity

About the business: This small landscaping outfit (1-2 crews, seasonally) offers both routine maintenance and completion of small residential projects with an emphasis on skilled, knowledgeable horticultural services. We narrow our offerings as much as possible on sustainable, practical landscaping services and builds drawing from a trained knowledge base of plants and their needs. Some examples of our services include: Pruning, weeding, small tree care, plant health assessment, trimming of hedging and shrubs, plant replacement, design and installation of softscape, lawn replacement, and some irrigation installation and maintenance.

Please note that we are highly cognizant of the risk of overuse issues in physical labour roles and make a strong effort to take stretching breaks and vary tasks for each worker throughout the day to mitigate this danger. As a result, you should be prepared to learn to perform every task needed for this job, (hedge trimming on ladders with power tools, bending and kneeling for long periods of time to perform hand weeding, moving heavy materials with wheelbarrows, pruning, planting, etc.) to allow the team to function correctly.

Applicants who experience seasonal allergies, have issues with bending over or kneeling for long periods of time, (back or knee problems) or lifting and carrying the occasional heavy object will not be capable of entering into this role.

Pay: $22.00-$26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
