POSITION OVERVIEW
WDN is seeking a talented and motivated Lands Technician to join our dynamic team. This role offers an opportunity to support the Lands Department including developing and administering the WDN GIS system.
KEY DUTIES
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. The employee may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. In accordance with standards of WDN and reporting to the Director of Economic & Lands, the Employee will:
coordinate the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS) for the management and development of WDN Lands;
responsible for the collection, conversion, import and export of data from GIS systems including censuses, field observation, GPS, satellite imagery, aerial photographs and existing maps;
responsible for compiling file management requirements for GIS data from maps, databases, registry systems and other sources;
creating maps using ESRI ArcGIS software;
work with other WDN Departments on integrating program databases including collection of data and inputting;
develop GIS policies and procedures;
attend GIS training and/or workshops as required;
field work may be required;
assist with the general administration of the WDN Land Code;
maintain the Whitecap Dakota Land Registry in coordination with the First Nations Land Registry;
coordinate land surveys, land appraisals, inspections, environmental assessments;
coordinate with all crown utilities for servicing requirements;
support WDN Departments on planning and development initiatives;
some travel and flexible hours may be required;
adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and safe work practices, including the successful completion of required Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training; and
perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Economic Development & Lands.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful completion of a Post-Secondary degree or certificate program in a related field, and at least 3 years' experience; or an equivalent combination of skill, knowledge and experience.
Knowledge of modern GIS tools and methodologies for First Nation or Municipal use.
Experience in First Nations lands management and/or administration.
Experience and working knowledge with Microsoft Office, especially Excel; ArcGIS and ArcMap software an asset.
Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and the ability to work as a part of a team to effectively interact with other departments, staff and members.
Highly motivated with strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license and a reliable vehicle
