Reporting to the Senior Manager of Lands and Resources, the Program Coordinator supports land and resource stewardship initiatives across the Gwich'in Settlement Area and Region. This role assists in implementing the Gwich'in Guardian Program, environmental monitoring, and conservation efforts, while ensuring compliance with the GCLCA and relevant laws and policies. The Coordinator conducts field visits to document land use activities, carries out policy research and strategic planning, and communicates clearly with Gwich'in leadership and communities. Additional responsibilities include supporting funding proposals, reporting, and organizing meetings with Elders, harvesters, and other stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborates with community members and local RRCs and DGOs to locate and register Gwich'in Participants Cabins and manages entries to the Gwich'in Lands Registry
Review land use, water, and environmental referrals from territorial, federal, and other regulatory bodies
Assess proposed projects for alignment with land claim agreements, traditional land use, and community interests.
Coordinate internal reviews and compile technical and cultural comments for formal responses.
Facilitate engagement with Gwich'in Participants, right-holders and stakeholders to gather input and concerns on land use and development proposals
Track and manage timelines for referral responses to ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines.
Assist in drafting submissions for land use initiatives, regulatory hearings, or environmental assessments.
Prepares written submissions expressing GTC's position to proponents and/or external agencies.
Coordinates internal feedback to provide GTC input on specific land use proposals on Crown land in the GUR.
Maintain organized records of all referrals, correspondence, and decision documents
Develop briefing notes, memos and summaries to inform GTC management and the leadership team and members about ongoing engagement efforts.
Prepare written reports and presentations on project activities and land use issues.
Respond to inquiries from the right-holders, public, industry, and other proponents in a timely and respectful manner.
Acts as a resource for all requests to GTC for activities proposed in the Gwich'in Settlement Area and Region.
Liaises with local organizations in relation to land or resource management matters.
Develop and submit funding proposals in accordance with management direction,
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science, Land Use Planning, Indigenous Governance, or related field.
3-5 years' experience in land/resource management or regulatory review.
Knowledge of the GCLCA and northern land management systems.
Strong writing skills for reports, submissions, and briefings.
Experience reviewing land use, water, or environmental proposals.
Effective communicator with experience engaging Indigenous communities.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; GIS experience is an asset.
Valid Class 5 driver's license; willingness to travel as needed.
