DUTIES

The LAN Administrator position works to support the enterprise systems within the Information Technology department, and reports to the Director of Information Technology. The successful applicant will be responsible for the support of core enterprise systems and services to meet the educational and business needs of NLSchools.

Duties include

:

Provides integrated systems solutions to build and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure in a Windows based and cloud-based environment, ensuring data integrity and systems availability; Installs, configures and maintains both Microsoft Windows physical and virtual servers with administration of resources via a VMWare vSphere environment, including hardware, operating systems and application upgrades; this aspect includes support and maintenance in SAN storage / fiber channel environment; Ensures server/workstation connectivity and provisioning by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate hardware/software solutions; oversees installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of server hardware, software and peripherals; server support includes finance, file/print, backup servers, etc. and their associated operating system and applications; Optimizes server and network communication utilization by researching and recommending enhancements to system capabilities and performance; this includes writing scripts and batch files, coordinating job scheduling and performing systems auditing and monitoring as needed to enhance the function of network communications and server operations. Assists with enterprise desktop provisioning and support including deployment for desktop operating system, security patches and applications; Assists in the provisioning and supporting NLSchools enterprise WiFi network environment; Researches and tests possible solutions and implements solutions; coordinates third-party maintenance for network equipment and applications and troubleshoots associated problems; Enforces NLSchools network security and installation procedures through maintaining and monitoring network security, addressing security concerns through regular maintenance and root cause analysis; Maintains and implements regular backup operations and using defined processes for data protection, disaster recovery and failover procedures; Ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and data/database archive operations and recovery procedures. Provides documentation and technical assistance on a organization-wide basis; Performs on-site and remote assistance and troubleshooting; Other related duties as required by IT operations and project related work;

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS (must haves):

Technology diploma (minimum three years) or university degree in technology or any equivalent combination of experience and training;


8+ years of experience systems administration, supporting and maintaining in an enterprise data center environment, supporting major enterprise information systems;


Extensive knowledge of network systems and software, hardware, security, network protocols, Microsoft systems, VMWare (virtual environment experience), SAN/fiber channel infrastructure, IBM Spectrum Backup, etc.;


Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows advanced server systems is essential;


Experience with identity management technologies (i.e. Microsoft LDAP, Active Directory);


Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills to diagnoses and resolves system operational problems quickly and effectively;


Effective communication (written, verbal, and listening), time-management and organizational skills are essential along with a strong customer service orientation;


Experience in enterprise WiFi technologies and implementations;


Experience with enterprise switch configuration, deployment and management would be a significant asset or any equivalent combination of experience and training;


Experience in Microsoft SCCM would be considered an asset;


Experience with scripting (i.e. Powershell) and network batch processing
