As a Presiding Deputy Returning Officer (PDRO), you will be entrusted with leading the polling station team, ensuring the Trustee Election is conducted with integrity, order, and care. Position Overview:
The PDRO is the lead election official at the polling station, supervising staff, guiding the day's activities, and resolving issues with wisdom and patience. This role combines strong organization with a servant-leadership mindset.
This position works under the supervision and direction of the Returning Officer (Secretary Treasurer) for the Lakeland Catholic School Division.
Key Dates:
Training Session : Early October 2025 (half-day; date confirmed after hiring)
Election Day : October 20, 2025 (full day; from 9:00 a.m. until counting is complete)
Duties & Responsibilities:
Participate in mandatory training hosted by the Returning Officer before Election Day.
Pick up and securely store all election materials in advance.
Ensure the polling station is prepared and accessible, welcoming all who come to vote.
Supervise and support election staff, assigning duties and scheduling breaks to serve voters effectively.
Assist electors who need guidance while respecting their privacy and dignity.
Maintain a peaceful and orderly environment.
Oversee ballot counting and accurate reporting of results.
Coordinate respectfully with candidates, scrutineers, and media representatives.
Return the ballot box and supplies safely at the end of the day.
Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age on Election Day and eligible to work in Canada.
Prior election or leadership experience preferred.
Skilled in organization, conflict resolution, and clear communication.
Able to model patience, discretion, and professionalism.
Comfortable with map reading and rural addressing.
