Job Description

Arthon is looking for an organized, adaptable individual to fill the dual position of Labourer/Scale Operator at our Crawford Quarry in Kelowna. The chosen candidate is required to have a valid class 5 drivers license and beginner level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. The candidate must be organized, detail oriented, have strong multi tasking skills, and physically capable of performing the required tasks. Previous labour/scale experience and/or valid first aid certificate is considered an asset. This role reports directly to the Site Superintendent.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Labour - Load and unload construction materials and move materials to work areas. Erect, dismantle and maintain site fencing, silt fencing, site signage, and barricades required around site. Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete, gravel, and asphalt. Assist heavy equipment operators to secure special attachments to equipment and signal operators to guide them in moving equipment. Assist in aligning pipes and related activities. Assist in drilling and blasting rock at construction site. Assist drillers and blasters with layout, hauling blasting materials, and preparing for blasts. Level earth to fine grade specifications using rake and shovel. Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, etc. Operate power tools, vibrators, and tampers as directed. Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors, and pumps. Oil and grease or assist with minor repairs and maintenance.

2) Scale Operation - Answer customer inquiries, quote prices, and assist customers in viewing product, guesstimating amounts, and obtaining delivery services, if required. Issue scale tickets (invoices) to loads weighed at scale upon departure. Handle cash and credit card transactions. Create and send transaction reports to Accounts Payable. Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the scale office.

3) Standard Corporate Responsibilities - Maintain the stability and reputation of the organization by complying with legal requirements. Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish the job results. Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Be conversant with relevant sections of the Safety Manual. Understand WorkSafeBC acts and regulations, as well as the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC.

Arthon offers a competitive benefits package, fair compensation, and RRSP matching after successful completion of the probation period. This position is full-time, starting as soon as possible. Schedule is 8-9 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Overtime may be required when working the scale.
