ROLE OVERVIEW
The Labourer plays a critical support role on site - handling physically demanding tasks and working alongside skilled tradespeople to keep projects moving efficiently.
Key Roles
Arrive on time, ready to work, and wearing appropriate PPE.
Assist with construction activities.
Always follow safe job procedures and safe work practices.
Ask questions and be willing to learn.
Take responsibility for safety and act on it.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Site Preparation & General Duties
Arrive on time at the designated assembly point, ready for work.
Load, unload, and move construction materials to appropriate work areas.
Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, and barricades.
Remove rubble, debris, and hazardous materials from construction sites using appropriate tools.
Assist in demolishing buildings, cleaning and sorting salvaged materials.
Always maintain a clean and organized job site.
Support for Trades & Equipment Operations
Assist tradespersons such as carpenters in various construction activities.
Support heavy equipment operators by securing attachments, signaling during movements, and assisting with related duties.
Align pipes and support pipeline construction for hydro, telephone, sewer, and water services.
Tend and feed machines or equipment, including mixers, compressors, and pumps.
Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, tampers, and other small tools as directed.
Material Handling & Construction Tasks
Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.
Level earth to fine-grade specifications using hand tools such as rakes and shovels.
Assist with drilling and blasting rock as required.
Oil and grease hoists and similar mechanical equipment.
Safety & Compliance
Always wear and maintain required PPE, including hard hat, hi-vis vest, steel-toed boots, gloves, and eye protection.
Maintain foul weather gear (rain gear, rubber boots) and be prepared to work in all weather conditions.
Attend daily safety meetings in full PPE, demonstrating adherence to CME's PPE standards.
Follow all safety policies, procedures, and protocols as per company, provincial, and federal regulations.
Direct traffic safely at or near construction sties when required.
Administrative & Team Support
Complete daily paperwork accurately and submit it as required.
Obtain tools and materials needed for tasks and support crew needs proactively.
Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with co-workers, supervisors, and clients.
Uphold CME's core values and work ethic through all job site interactions and responsibilities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreperson, Heavy Equipment Operator, Construction Lead Hand, or Pipe Layer.

Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including:
+ Frequently lifting or moving up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs

+ Working outdoors in hot, rainy, noisy, and wet environments
+ Alternating between sitting, standing, and walking
+ Bending, crouching, and kneeling
+ Good hand-eye coordination
Customer service skills, including effective communication with the public
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with coworkers and management
Proficiency in operating hand tools and other job-specific equipment
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 16 years of age
Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions
1 + years experience in civil or general construction preferred
Safety certifications an asset (SiteReady BC or CSTS-09, First Aid)
Valid BC Driver's License (Class 5 or better) preferred
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$25.00-$33.00 per hour, depending on experience and education
Vacation pay (calculated at 4% of total wages earned)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Travel may be required to job sites
Work hours typically 7am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday
Overtime required during busy construction season
