Commonwealth Stadium and Recreation Centre feature world-class amenities, including a professional sports field with an artificial turf, aquatic area, indoor track, fitness centre, fieldhouse, fitness program rooms, basketball, badminton and volleyball courts. Athletes training for competition and fitness enthusiasts of all levels frequent this facility. As a Labourer II, your ability to work independently and use excellent organizational skills will be critical to the maintenance of these high-quality facilities. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.
What will you do?
Set up and take down equipment for facility events, programs and sports activities
Perform summer season outdoor mowing, playground/picnic site maintenance, minor equipment repairs, comfort station cleaning and supplies
Assist with artificial turf maintenance
Perform winter season snow removal using a snow blower, gas-powered walk behind snow sweeper and hand equipment
Provide customer service support to guests, such as answering questions or assisting with equipment and facility needs
Assist contract custodial staff with overall facility cleanliness and sanitation of washrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms
Maintain cleanliness of all storage areas, mechanical areas, electrical rooms, corridors, bleachers and running track areas
Perform minor repairs on facility equipment and furniture
Perform the daily facility opening and closing procedures
Provide a security presence throughout the facility
Maintain appropriate facility and equipment maintenance documentation
Report facility and equipment maintenance needs to the Team Leader or Building Operator
Other related duties as required
Qualifications
:Completion of Grade 10 or higher or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year of labour experience in a recreation facility or related environment or equivalent combination of training and experience
Assets:
Customer service, custodial and/or janitorial experience is an asset
Skills required for success:
Ability to work in a safe manner as dictated by Occupational Health and Safety and the Community Services Department regulations, policies and procedures
Ability to safely operate the equipment and tools required for the position, such as scrubber(s), sweepers, snow blowers, riding and walk-behind lawn mowers, gators and other small electrical and/or mechanical equipment
Some knowledge of standard methods, materials, safety precautions, WHMIS and hazards involved in the construction and maintenance of specific assignments
Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to maintain simple records
Ability to work and problem solve independently
Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions, including roving a large facility
Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C certification is required
Successful candidates must comply with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which may include wearing steel-toed boots and/or a respirator

Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position

Hours of Work
40 hours per week. Shifts may be a rotating day/afternoon or night shift and may occur any day of the week, depending on operational requirements.
