The Waste Services Branch at the City of Edmonton is seeking an Assisted Waste Collection Rep. Join our team to support strategic initiatives and upcoming program changes within Waste Services.
As the Assisted Waste Collection Rep you will be responsible for collecting and placing waste into carts and/or bins and the placement of carts at the curb to assist Edmonton residents with diverse physical and mobile abilities. While working in this role, you may be required to work within one or more operational areas of the Waste Collection Services Section. Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve timely results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style.
What will you do?
Work with residents with diverse and varied mobility to determine storage locations for their carts and/or bins
Collect bagged materials from residents and place them into the carts and/or bins
Wheel the resident cart from the designated location to the curbside
Drive to a variety of sites to complete daily assigned route sheets and work responsibilities
Perform data entry, record keeping and complete field orders with all the pertinent data
Investigate and resolve customer complaints and inquiries in person, via phone, or email
Assist supervisors to deal with and/or resolve complaints and council inquiries
Perform work in a safe manner compliant with the City and provincial OHS and environmental guidelines
Conduct safety checks and on-site hazard assessments when servicing or interacting with the assisted waste residents
Qualifications
:Completion of the tenth school grade or equivalent
Assets:
Experience in waste management/collection
Skills Required for Success:
Skilled in the operation of collection vehicles and associated equipment and the use and demonstration of proper lifting techniques and safety procedures
Ability to serve a diverse population, including providing support to a wide spectrum of physical ability or mobility
Ability to enter and update simple records in a database
Customer service mindset, with the ability to effectively communicate service delivery information to the public and resolve complaints quickly
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to understand, prepare and execute oral and written instructions
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships and provide a high level of customer service
Demonstrated ability to work in a fully integrated manner across the Department, Branch or Section
Strong organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to achieve results in the context of a respectful, inclusive and service-minded style

Conditions of Employment:
Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toed boots, is a requirement for this position
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license or provincial equivalent (non-probationary & non-graduated). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement

Work Environment:
Physical ability and manual dexterity to complete the assigned tasks, including manual labour and long periods of driving in various weather and environmental conditions
The hours of work and work schedule will vary and may be subject to shift work, providing coverage 7 days per week
