This position works in the Sewer Operations, Maintenance and Construction organizational unit. This is manual maintenance and construction work of some complexity and variety involving the performance of semi-skilled tasks entailing the exercise of one or more acquired skills. An incumbent lays out, assists in and supervises the work of several subordinates engaged in sewer maintenance and repair tasks, performs sanitary and storm sewer maintenance and construction, works directly on installation and rehabilitation of small to large diameter pipe, and also performs trench excavation duties. Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications include up to high school graduation considerable experience in sewers construction and maintenance work including some supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and materials used in general sewers construction and maintenance work; of the functions of the division concerned, established procedures governing the work of the division and the relationship between the various applicable divisions of the civic service. Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions with a minimum of supervision; to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual tasks requiring the use of considerable independent judgement in construction and maintenance operations; to lay out, supervise and check the work of several subordinates performing semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in sewers construction and maintenance functions. Considerable skill in the use of a variety of hand tools and equipment common to sewers construction and maintenance work. Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit performance of heavy manual work outdoors in all weather. An EOCP Level 1 Certification would be an asset. A valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
