We are currently looking for a Labour Relations Specialist - Toronto.

The Labour Relations Specialist works alongside the Manager, Human Resources and Labour Relations to align our employees with the company\'s business objectives and needs. The candidate will enhance staff performance, support employee development, plan strategic HR initiatives, and maintain good relations with the unionized workforce and their representation. The ideal candidate for this role should have a good understanding of business functions, communications skills and strategic thinking.

TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Receive and investigate all labour disputes, and provide conclusions to ensure labour relations are maintained - ensure that all labour relations cases are in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Root cause analysis of grievances and finding solutions to avoid causes - meet with Union Chief Steward to receive and discuss grievances at the Level 2 stage
  • Organize and produce arbitration briefs in preparation for Arbitration Meetings between the Company and the Union
  • Prepare responses to Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) complaints, Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) inquiries and investigations, and other labour inquiries.
  • Mediate discussions between manager and employee and/or representatives in attempt to reconcile differences. Conduct follow up meetings as needed to ensure closure.
  • Liaise with the client regarding the Contract Compliance Program audits pertaining to Performance Management and document control
  • Participate in onboarding new management staff by providing training materials and understanding labour relations
  • Assist Regional Airports across Ontario with Human Resources related issues such as investigations, disciplines, grievances and arbitrations
  • Provide communications through publishing internal bulletins and memorandums - as well as updating the GardaWorld website with the communications
  • Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • A University Degree or College Diploma, preferably in Human Resources and/or Labour Relations or equivalent experience is required
  • CHRP designation preferred, or equivilant (or working towards the designation)
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Human Resources and/or Labour Relations
  • Understanding of employment related legislation such as: Canada Labour Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Canada Human Rights Act
  • Ability to multitask and produce results in a fast-paced environment. Must have the ability to meet multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks at hand
  • Working knowledge of WSIB and Health and Safety practices
  • Strong leadership, decision making and problem solving abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexibility in schedule with the ability to work outside of regular office hours
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint
