An exciting permanent full-time opportunity to join the Human Resources team as our Labour Relations & Attendance Specialist is available. As the successful candidate you will report directly to the Manager of Human Resources, Staffing, and Payroll.

We are looking for a detail-orientated professional who is driven to create a fair, positive working environment, that facilitates strong communication between staff and leaders. As the successful candidate, you will play an integral role in supporting the Hospital\xe2\x80\x99s leaders to integrate Human Resources best practices and programs into their day-to-day operations. You will provide coaching and guidance regarding employee / labour relations, leave management, as well as attendance management support for staff and leaders. You will be critical in executing our people initiatives while providing outstanding internal customer support.

Responsibilities for Labour Relations

  • Provides guidance and support in labour relations to leaders for designated client group on Human Resources / Labour Relation matters, including the consistent interpretation of Collective Agreements
  • Administers performance management and progressive discipline processes
  • Prepare and facilitate effective Labour Management Meetings as required
  • Responsible for conducting workplace investigations, preparing, and communicating the findings
  • Responsible for maintaining effective union/management relationships
  • Responsible for preparing, attending, and representing the Hospital at mediation, arbitration and hearings as required
  • Respond to labour relations inquiries, and facilitate creative conflict resolution strategies
  • Maintain records related to labour relations and prepare reports for Senior Management as required
  • Assist in preparation and attendance at Arbitration and Collective Bargaining as required


Responsibilities for Attendance Awareness
  • Support development and implementation of Attendance Awareness program
  • Facilitates administering the attendance awareness framework
  • Provides guidance to leaders on individual attendance management strategies and actions to ensure appropriateness
  • Collects, reviews, and analyzes data related to attendance including trends in absenteeism, accommodation initiatives, and recommendations
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of attendance methodology and recommends development / revision of related practices, tools, and guidelines, to ensure continuous quality improvement, sustainability, and effectiveness of the model
  • Identify training needs for leaders / staff in support of attendance management principles and guidelines, and ensure development of timely delivery of related programs
Job Requirements:

Requirements & Competencies
  • Post-secondary education in industrial relations, labour relations or human resources management
  • Workplace investigations certificate preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of experience progressive experience in Human Resources, labour relations experience in a unionized environment preferably in a Health Care environment
  • Sound knowledge of, and demonstrated ability to apply and interpret policy, collective agreements, and employment legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting clients to specifically address and manage performance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best-practice disability and attendance management standards, policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) with a proven track record of investigating complaints and resolving issues
  • Strong client focus with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to accommodate organizational needs
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution, problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and computer skills combined with the ability to work under pressure in a high-volume working environment
  • Team player and relationship builder with excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, apply sound judgement and a high degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to accommodate organizational needs, (i.e., internal investigation)
  • Bilingual French/English is an asset

Compensation: $35.77 to $38.72 per hour, plus competitive benefits, and a pension plan.
