About this opportunity:
We are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technologist to join our Analytical Services Laboratory (ASL) at the Lloydminster Refinery. Reporting to the Laboratory team lead, this self-motivated individual will use their talents to analyze a variety of samples within specified timelines set by our clients. This fast paced and highly technical position will also assist in the field for regulatory and non-regulatory sampling and analysis.
The ASL is an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory which maintains a quality system of the highest standard developed over the last 17 years and accepts oil, water, gas and various other sample matrices from the field, company facilities and the Lloydminster Refinery.
Work environment:
This is a full-time position working a 5 and 2 work schedule (Monday to Friday). This position is based at the Refinery and requires the successful candidate to live in the Lloydminster area.

Responsibilities:
Complete timely analysis on various samples using a variety of analytical techniques.
Follow and maintain all laboratory procedures.
Research and develop methods and standard operating procedures (SOP\xe2\x80\x99s) seeking a constant state of improvement.
Provide coverage for field sampling technologist (ie month-end LACT mixing, passive air sampling for volatile organic carbons (VOC\xe2\x80\x99s) and sulfur stations, and sampling a variety of gas samples).
Work towards positive change and uphold Cenovus\xe2\x80\x99s core safety values and principles.
Prepare material for monthly, bi-monthly and yearly meetings.
Maintain communication and build strong relationships with internal and external clients.
Sample analysis using various types of lab instrumentation; Flash, Cloud and Pour Point, IC, HPIC, ICP, GC, various distillations, trace oil analysis using X-Ray, Sulfur and Nitrogen Chemiluminescence as well as KF, TAN, MCRT and other bench techniques.
Lab housekeeping duties, stocking laboratory supplies, and general cleaning of equipment, work area, sample management, and waste disposal.
Troubleshoot and perform maintenance and calibration on lab instrumentation.
Efficiently and accurately capture and report data.
Follows all HS&E requirements in the performance of this Position\'s responsibilities.
Qualifications:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Minimum 2-year diploma in Chemical Technology or B. Sc Chemistry degree.
5 years\xe2\x80\x99 work experience in the petroleum industry.
Strong knowledge of crude and process oil analysis, wet chemistry, and water analysis techniques.
The following would be considered an asset
Knowledge of LIMS (laboratory information management system)
Eligibility for certification in ACPA or ASET
Strong understanding of ISO 17025 including all the related documentation for writing analytical methods, SOP\xe2\x80\x99s and form submittals
Strong computer skills in Excel, MS Word, Access and macro\xe2\x80\x99s
Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation with enhanced troubleshooting skills.
Strong commitment to Health, Safety and Environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is required.
