Your Opportunity:




Reporting to the APL Safety Lead, the Laboratory Technologist II - Safety, is responsible and accountable for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of laboratory safety practices at the south zone level. This individual supports south zone/program activities related to applicable accreditations, communicates and provides feedback on APL safety initiatives in relation to site/zone impact, and/or oversees workers orientation and education as well as inspections and assessments related to safety. The individual collaborates with APL Safety, leaders and workers to ensure safety policies and procedures are kept up to date, communicated and implemented in a timely manner. Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Develops and assists with the implementation, review and maintenance of APL safety programs; Advises workers and leaders in regard to health and safety; reviews legislation, accreditation standards, recommends policies, and monitors compliance to Laboratory Health and Safety. The Laboratory Technologist II, is knowledgeable on the appropriate measures to be taken related to biological and chemical spills and reviews site/area spill response plans, including spill drills. This position also chairs local safety committees, manages assigned portfolio within APL MySafetyNet, in a safety advisor role, reviews incident trends to assist in determining actions for incident reduction, is familiar with tools such as SharePoint, TRACCESS assignment and conducts respirator fit testing. Other duties assigned as required. This role supports the North Zone; the successful applicant must be located within that zone.

Description:



As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) II, you will coordinate the day-to-day operations and the quality control function of the laboratory. You may have advanced technical knowledge or are the lead responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Information System (LIS) support, site education, quality assurance or laboratory research programs. Your responsibilities may include coordinating, prioritizing, monitoring and assigning work to MLT l's, providing technical advice, problem solving and trouble shooting on a variety of laboratory instruments. In addition, you will participate in the technical aspects of the laboratory, ensuring the performance of standard and specialized procedures.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience as medical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is strongly preferred. CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or working towards completion is strongly preferred. Experience with training/instruction preferred. Experience within an advisory health and safety role is strongly preferred.
