Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). Additional Required Qualifications: This is a working level position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of diagnostic procedures within the Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Specimen Procurement departments; within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Current experience in Biochemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Medicine required. This position is required to take on-call shifts and must be on-site within 30 minutes of call-in. The ability to effectively communicate in English. Good organizational skills and ability to assume responsibility. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently and promote good teamwork, under pressure and in emergency situations. Demonstrate initiative, good judgment, and attention to detail. The ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. Practices effective infection control, and safety techniques as applicable. Proficient computer skills. Ability to adapt to frequent changes. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and adapt to stressful situations using tact and diplomacy. Ability to interpret, explain and apply applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures. Receptive to new ideas and change. Evidence of CSMLS certification may be required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the past two years: Connect Care LIS experience and knowledge. Medical Terminology and experience in a healthcare setting Experience in Transfusion Medicine. Current phlebotomy experience preferred. Working with; Vitros XT3400, Dxh600, ACL Elite Pro, ISTAT, Triage, Ortho Gel method.
