Your Opportunity:

The Medical Laboratory Technologist I (MLT1) is part of a highly specialized team working in both Containment Level II (CL2) and Containment Level III (CL3) lab environments providing services for the entire province to support the identification of Mycobacterium species and other Risk Group three (RG3) organisms. The MLT1 recognizes these organisms and follows established protocols for identification and susceptibility testing, while adhering to all established safety protocols for working in a laboratory. The MLT1 performs quality control procedures, operates technical equipment, assists with the training of new staff, students and residents, and participates in procedure reviews, new technology assessments and accreditation processes. The MLT1 will be required to provide after hours coverage by rotating through an on-call schedule with other team members with the ability to respond within thirty minutes. The MLT1 will be required to provide Security Level II and obtain HPTA Security Level III clearance.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized school of Medical Laboratory Technology or Science with evidence of appropriate certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Sciences, registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA) with a current CMLTA practice permit, and ability to obtain HPTA Security Level III clearance to work in a CL3 Laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:

One to two years working in a bacteriology lab within the previous three years, Containment Level III Public Health Microbiology Laboratory experience, and training in the use of the Epic Beaker Lab Information System/Connect Care.
