Your Opportunity:

The Edmonton Cytogenetics Laboratory has a dynamic, team based work environment, participating in clinical testing for both inherited and oncological conditions. Here, the successful candidate will work closely with other staff to deliver high quality patient results and participate in process improvement initiatives. As a Laboratory Technologist in our lab, you will be a key player in the lab processes, ranging from specimen reception, process preparation, tissue culturing, and quality control processes. As this role is pivotal for cytogenetic testing, the successful individual should have an aptitude for team work, problem solving, and be adaptive to accommodate dynamic workflows. Under the direction of the laboratory supervisor, the successful candidate will: Initiate and participate in receiving and accessioning patient samples. Perform automated or manual tissue culturing procedures. Participate in QAQC processes, test method development, and process improvement. Prepare reagents, perform equipment maintenance. Participate in academic activities including development of publications and presentations within a collaborative framework. Provide training/continuing education for laboratory staff, residents, and students, as well as ongoing professional development to keep abreast of current developments in technology and methodology. Work in an organized manner, follow protocols, and maintain specimen integrity. Have exceptional written and oral communication proficiency. Be flexible with work hours, including off-shift and/or weekends.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA). Additional Required Qualifications: Competency with windows-based computer applications (ex. Microsoft Office, database/spreadsheet applications) and mathematical calculations is required. The ability to stand, sit, lift and carry equipment and supplies is a must. The successful candidate must be approachable, reliable, with strong interpersonal skills. We rely on our team\xe2\x80\x99s ability to be flexible, organized, and cohesive. Team members work alongside each other through every step of patient testing and each process is fortified by strong team membership. It is essential that the successful candidate be able to work independently and within a team environment. The individual must have proven effective time management and organizational skills, and be a strong team player committed to providing quality patient care. Strong communication skills are a must. To be successful in this role, the candidate must be quality focused and have very good attention to details. The individual must demonstrate excellent problem solving, decision making and troubleshooting skills and have the ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities according to the situation. Communication and interpersonal skills must enable this individual to build and maintain relationships, facilitate teamwork, resolve conflict and manage change. The successful candidate will represent Genetics and Genomics, as part of Alberta Precision Laboratories Ltd., in a respectful, professional and courteous manner. Preferred Qualifications: Clinical experience in a laboratory is preferred, but not a requirement.
