Your Opportunity:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I in the FMC Chemistry department, you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of duties, including, but not limited to: performing, recording and reporting diagnostic procedures in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures to ensure a high quality, accurate and timely result. Identify unusual or abnormal findings and alert the Senior Technologist/Clinical Biochemist. Perform and document quality control and assurance programs. Operate, maintain and perform troubleshooting on a variety of laboratory instruments to ensure optimal function. Assist with maintaining department supply inventory and re-order as required. You may participate in the validation and assessment of procedures and equipment under the direction of the senior technologist, supervisor or manager. You may participate in training and orientation of staff and students. Respond appropriately to non-conforming events and unusual situations and be able to identify complex issues to the Senior Technologist.

Description:

As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment. A strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality are essential. Candidates must show proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, troubleshoot technical issues, and respond appropriately to non-conforming events. Familiarity with Epic Connect Care or other laboratory information systems is required to support efficient workflow and documentation. A willingness to participate in ongoing training, validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives is expected. Candidates must also be available to work a variety of shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays, as required by operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidate has experience with lab automation and middleware, including Roche Cobas analyzers, Infinity middleware, gas chromatography, blood gas systems, and urinalysis. Ability to work in fast-paced acute care, stay organized, adapt, and prioritize effectively. Training in leadership, process improvement, or change management is also preferred.
