A Laboratory Technologist is responsible for conducting experiments, performing tests and providing results, analysis and reporting. The Laboratory Technologist is also responsible for maintaining the laboratory, equipment and inventory as well as safely handling, storing and disposing of samples, chemicals and other materials. A Laboratory Technologist may be promoted to higher tiers within the laboratory including Technical Laboratory Manager. This position relates to cementing, stimulation and nitrogen laboratory fluids as applied to the oil and gas or energy sectors.
Job Responsibilities
Possess a working knowledge of basics of oilfield cement blends and additives, including calculations.
Possess a working knowledge of basics of stimulation fluid, nitrogen and other specialty well workover fluids, including calculations.
Log all field samples and experimental products.
Complete reports and enter test data, as required.
Operate, calibrate and maintain all laboratory equipment and inventory.
Conduct the safe handling, storage, and disposal of samples, chemicals, and other materials.
Conduct quality control testing of cementing, stimulation and workover fluids.
Coordinate internal testing of samples (cement blend formulations) upon request.
Conduct and complete all lab tests as per departmental SOP's. Complete and summarize reports and interpret test data.
Troubleshoot products and blends, as required.
Maintain the testing database, ensuring accuracy.
Assist with maintaining all departmental marketing materials (product pages, blend pages, handbooks).
Assist with departmental research and development projects. Maintain and update project summaries.
Manage and prioritize lab testing for the department, delegating to the team as required.
Schedule equipment maintenance and track all parts and the associated cost.
Ensure that all departmental data (test data, SDS database, laboratory testing SOP's, product information and specifications, lab calculators, etc.) is captured, maintained, and updated regularly.
Maintain all departmental marketing materials (product pages, blend pages, handbooks) and participate in presentations with the Sales department.
Review lab reports for accuracy and completeness.
Develop test parameters to evaluate Challenger's product lines, evaluating opportunities for improvement or efficiencies.
Follow all of Challenger's JSA and Safe Work Procedures.
Complete and participate in all required safety training, both internal and external.
Work with management to improve standard operating procedures and policies.
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications - Required:
Diploma or degree in Chemistry or Engineering field.
Relevant experience in a laboratory technologist role.
