This position is a part of the Non-Academic Staff Association (NASA).
This position has a term length of 1 year plus 1 day and offers a .
Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Laboratory Technician conducts research in the field of cardiovascular disease using mice as an the animal model. The work for this position includes genotyping, tissue collection, histology, immunostaining and microscopy. This position will also be responsible for routine tasks such as placing orders for reagents and materials for the laboratory, keeping an up-to-date inventory of reagents, SOPs, and lab safety documents.
Responsibilities:
Performing experiments and/or assisting trainees in their experiments:

• DNA/RNA/protein extraction and quantification.
• DNA PCR (genotyping).
• RNA RT-PCR Carries out tissue freezing and sectioning using a cryostat
• Protein extraction and Western blotting.
• Cell isolation and culture

Lab maintenance:

• Ordering items for the lab.
• Maintaining inventory of antibodies and primers.
• Prepare new SOPs if required.
• Keeping the lab area uncluttered and clean (tasks are divided among all trainees and staff in the lab, this position needs to ensure compliance and consistency).

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Laboratory and Research Diploma.
• A sound knowledge of cardiovascular physiology (high school level).
• Comfortable with using a computer, and softwares such as Words, PowerPoint, excel, and

graphing software (Origin, graphpad or prism), Image J, Google applications. * Strong interpersonal skills and verbal / written communication skills.

• Demonstrate attention to detail and high levels of accuracy in task performance is required.
• Demonstrate high standard of professionalism and proven ability to build and maintain strong collaborative working relationships.
