DeNova operates a research and development pilot facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, equipped for fermentation process development, analytical chemistry, and microbiology research. With its first commercial facility now under construction, DeNova is entering an exciting phase of growth - expanding its scientific, operational, and commercial capabilities to bring its first product, Psomi(TM), to market and contribute to the evolution of modern protein production.




The Opportunity





DeNova is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the day-to-day operations of our Research & Development team as the company transitions from pilot-scale development toward commercial readiness. This role is central to maintaining a safe, well-organized, and reliable laboratory environment, working alongside technicians, scientists, and engineers to advance DeNova's protein cultivation platform.



The Laboratory Technician position blends hands-on laboratory work with strong organizational discipline and attention to detail. The successful candidate will work closely with the Lab Manager and R&D team to ensure lab readiness, support experimental workflows, uphold safety and documentation standards, and contribute to the operational foundation that enables consistent, high-quality scientific progress.

Core Responsibilities




Lab Operations Support:

Ensure smooth lab operations by organizing laboratory glassware and supplies, preparing stock solutions, and maintaining laboratory spaces in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

Experimental Assistance:

Set up and support experiments under supervision in accordance with established SOPs while accurately recording preliminary observations and experimental data.

Equipment Maintenance:

Support routine equipment setup, cleaning, and basic maintenance for laboratory activities.

Safety & Compliance:

Contribute to the development and improvement of laboratory safety protocols, and support routine safety and compliance checks.

Administrative & Documentation Support:

Maintain accurate laboratory records, including inventory, calibration, and maintenance logs.

Culture & Engagement:

Contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture grounded in curiosity, accountability, and DeNova's mission-driven values.



Required Qualifications




Technical Diploma or Science Degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or related field. At least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience in an industrial or applied research setting. Strong organizational and communication skills. Attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures and safety protocols. Enjoys working as part of a team and supporting others to enable high-quality laboratory operations. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.



Preferred Qualifications




Experience in microbial or fermentation-based labs. Familiarity with GLP environments and laboratory documentation systems.



Work Location & Schedule





This role is based at DeNova's research facility in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and requires regular onsite work. The role is primarily Monday to Friday during standard business hours. Occasional flexibility for early mornings, evenings, or weekends may be required to support laboratory operations or time-sensitive experiments.
