The Supervisor is responsible for all activities, operations and staff within the assigned department.
Responsible for designing/executing development and training programs for employees.
Completing annual PA performance reviews
Working with department administration to be accountable for the Health, Safety and Environment of personnel and the enforcement of all regulations, maintaining 100% on report card
Working with department administration to be accountable for quality - monitor and maintain lab QC standards. Complete QC chart monitoring
Executing production work and reviewing data
Answers queries regarding data review by GBS and delegates to Chief/Senior Chemist as necessary
Accountable for maintaining production, quality and financial targets.
Accountable for routine and non-routine equipment maintenance
Acts as back up to the Chief/Senior Chemist in their absence.
Investigates and reports details for CAPA investigations with sign off and implementation of corrective actions.
Participates and executes WCS events within the department.
Ensures staffing and supplies are adequate to meet capacity and TAT requirements.
Responsible for daily maneuvering of priorities, troubleshooting equipment failures and resolving process problems within the department.
Plan and initiate procedures and systems necessary to ensure the maintenance and improvement of the company quality system.
Qualifications
Education: Minimum of a Post-Secondary Education in a Science related program or equivalent experience or training
Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of relevant laboratory work experience required.
Minimum 1-3 years of previous supervisory experience is required.
Specific technical skills:
Strong leadership skills and experience in the supervising of small technical teams, ideally including the supervising of people in a minerals related laboratory.
Previous experience using laboratory instruments and the ability to operate and trouble-shoot them.
Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skill.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel and Outlook).
Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.
Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his/her Manager for resolution.
Advanced level of creativity required in solving routine problems.
Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Ability to work well with others & independently.
Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Works well under pressure.
Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
Travel to other SGS locations may be required from time to time.
