Reporting to the Director, Environment the Laboratory Supervisor’s responsibilities will include Key Responsibilities

  • Leading, planning, and managing the operation of the Main Laboratory, chip testing and satellite process labs
  • Supervising Main Laboratory and chip testing employees, coaching and developing team members
  • Develops, implements and maintains standard operating procedures that meet the requirements for accuracy and repeatability
  • Reviewing data trends and anomalies, working with stakeholders in Operations to identify process variations
  • Troubleshooting and basic equipment maintenance, methods development, validation and reporting.
  • Development of the annual laboratory budget & forecasts, inventory management, equipment procurement
  • Conducting analytical process testing and environmental sampling as needed, knowledge of waste water treatment process
  • Support of ISO 9001:2015 and 14000:2015 standards, QAQC Programs, familiar with BC Sampling Guidelines
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word etc.
Education and Experience
  • Degree (B.Sc.) or Diploma (Dip.) in Science with a focus in Chemistry and 5+ years industrial / laboratory experience
  • Excellent leadership skills, past supervisory experience, high standards of integrity
  • Knowledgeable in current legislation and regulatory requirements for industry.
  • Proficiency with ISO 9001, 14001, 17025, or QA/QC Laboratory programs.
What to expect The Laboratory Supervisor will be a part of our dynamic Environment and Laboratory team that supports the organization’s compliance, process optimization, and product quality. Our in-house laboratory is responsible for completing all the process testing required for maintaining and optimizing the pulp production chemical circuit, as well as conducting the majority of environmental sampling required for all provincial Air, Land, and Water permits and compliance under the federal Pulp and Paper Effluent Regulations. This testing has to occur with the highest level of Quality Assurance and Quality Control methods in place.
