Laboratory Scientist
Location: Vancouver Laboratory (on-site) Status: Permanent Full-Time Position
Imagia Canexia Health is looking for a Laboratory Scientist who will become an integral part of a collaborative and innovative team leading the design and development of cancer genomic assays, including tissue-based assays and blood-based circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) tests. The Laboratory Scientist is part of our laboratory research and product development team and reports to the Principal Scientist, Assay Development. You will be a key team player working in the cross-functional research and product development teams to ensure rigorous, fast-paced assay development of our molecular oncogenomic assays. You are passionate about precision medicine and helping cancer patients by developing high-quality biomarker detection assays and ensuring our assays are accessible to all.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Lead research, experimental design, planning, execution, and troubleshooting of experimental methodologies for assay product development
  • Produces appropriate sequencing data for R&D and new product development
  • Maintains knowledge of precision oncology, genomics technology development
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates across development teams including, bioinformatics, computational biology, artificial intelligence, engineering and software, product and project management to ensure timely development of the highest quality end\xe2\x80\x93to-end products.
  • Responsible for training, onboarding and mentoring of research and development team members
  • Contributes to product testing and validations including but not limited to troubleshooting, planning, designing experiments, analysis and report writing.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to internal and customer-facing teams regarding methodologies, assays and products
  • Contributes and presents results in internal scientific meetings, innovation planning, conferences
  • Helps to create appropriate resources for new methods and assays, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), user manuals, scientific manuscripts, and educational materials
  • Assume leadership for the execution and of new assay products, working under minimum supervision and will report to the Principal Scientist, Assay Development.

Who you are
  • A Ph.D. in molecular biology, cancer genomics, or related discipline with a minimum of 3+ years work-related experience.
  • An enthusiastic molecular biologist with genomic assay development and next generation sequencing experience including methodologies such as multiplex amplicon panels, hybrid capture-based, whole genome sequencing methods using next-generation sequencing technology such as Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, etc.
  • Knowledge in the oncology and precision medicine field
  • Design and development experience with other molecular biology platforms that support orthogonal validation of NGS including droplet digital PCR, qPCR, etc.
  • Competent in using bioinformatics analysis tools and genomic databases
  • Experience in leading and mentoring a team
  • A positive and highly collaborative innovative team player that can effectively communicate across cross-functional teams
