HAYDEN Diamond Bit Industries Ltd. specializes in the design, manufacture and distribution of diamond coring bits and other diamond products for the world's mining and exploration industry.





We are seeking for a

Laboratory Assistant

in Richmond, BC.




Objectives:






The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for the routine stewardship of the R&D Laboratory and performing sample preparation and laboratory tests. The Laboratory Assistant will have additional responsibilities as needed within the scope of R&D project work related and test bit supervision. Key to the position is the timely and accurate collection, organization, and presentation of data.

Responsibilities:






1. Maintain stewardship of the R&D Laboratory on a daily basis, ensuring the orderly use and maintenance of equipment, housekeeping, as well as sustaining inventory of samples and supplies.



2. Regularly monitor laboratory consumables and communicate with the Purchasing Department regarding their timely replenishment.



3. Perform data collection measurements for metal powders' tap density and compressed density.



4. Perform metallographic preparation on test coupons, trial bits, NCR items, and raw materials as needed.



5. Perform characterization studies on prepared samples via optical imaging and/or Vickers hardness. Future examination methods could include, but are not limited to: fracture toughness testing, abrasion resistance testing, element composition testing, sintering studies, metal powder characterization studies.



6. Assist in preparing samples for analysis for non-conformance reports. Submit acquired results and images into the company server R&D folder and update record sheets, logs, and documentation as per SOPs and instruction.



7. Report unsatisfactory measurement or characterization results to the Metallurgist promptly.



8. Routinely inspect and record laboratory equipment condition and report any malfunction or irregular operation to the Metallurgist promptly for remedial action.



9. Always follow safe laboratory practices when using equipment and apply safety rules at all times.



10. Ensure no unauthorized entry or activities in the R&D Laboratory and report any non-compliance to the Metallurgist promptly.



11. Support the Metallurgist with various R&D project tasks, test bit supervision, and new matrix formulation testing.



12. Inform the Metallurgist of any requests for supplementary equipment or supplies to assist in job responsibilities.



13. Perform any other duties assigned by Supervisor.



Qualifications:



1. Minimum education level: Post-secondary graduate with a Metallurgy degree, preferably in materials



science preferred with 1-3 years work experience in a similar field.



2. Metallurgical or mechanical laboratory experience is an advantage.



3. Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word, and technologically-savvy to quickly learn microscope and tester software.



4. Competent with written and spoken English, and experience with technical report writing.



5. Physically capable of lifting 22kg, standing for extended periods, with no physical disability (including color



blindness).



6. Strong analytical skills and detail-oriented.



7. Works effectively with minimal supervision and strong teamwork/collaboration skills.



8. Embraces hands-on work and continuous learning.





Start date: ASAP



Work hours: 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM (1 hour lunch break)



Job type: Permanent full time



Wage rate: Industry standard
