About the Position
This position is responsible for the analysis, data processing and reporting of data from low-resolution GCMS systems. On a daily basis, this position is responsible primarily for routine sample processing, from analysis to reporting, including workload planning, and associated instrument maintenance.
Specific Responsibilities
Able to analyse samples for up to four routine methods independently, as primary analyst;
Data processing, assessment and reporting (GEL LIMS and Excel) for up to four instrument methods;
Perform routine maintenance to ensure instrumentation is in good working order;
Assist in standard-making as a Tier 2 analyst (at minimum)
Calibration of analytical instrumentation;
Carry out all required record-keeping and documentation;
Maintain spare instrument parts in good working order;
Evaluate data and trouble-shoot problems with the data/extraction/analysis;
Interpret data, conduct calculations, and transfer data into electronic data collection software;
Communicate with team lead, senior analyst(s) and/or direct supervisor regarding workload, as required;
Aid in the development and implementation of new procedures;
Aid in review and writing of SOPs;
Participate in CAR and internal audit investigations;
Perform departmental data review and approvals for up to two routine methodologies;
Assist in training of junior staff on routine sample data processing and/or analyses;
Assist in other analytical sections of the lab as required;
Organize workload to meet Turn around Times (TAT's) and hold times. Must be able to prioritize and multitask as many tests are run daily;
Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
Work in accordance with the established health and safety policies and procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Organized, highly motivated, detail oriented;
Ability to work independently, or as part of a team, without supervision;
Ability to multitask;
Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
Strong English communication skills both written and verbal;
Proficient computer skills including LIMS, MS Word, MS Excel.
Required Qualifications
3 or more year(s) of extensive lab experience, or demonstrated equivalent skills, including at least one year operating GC-MS instrumentation;
Completion of technical diploma or B.Sc. degree in chemistry or related field.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances;
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
Ability to stand or sit for a full shift;
You may be exposed to unpleasant odours.
