Opportunity for Summer Students(Lab Technologist Environment - Vegreville, AB)InnoTech Alberta is looking to provide meaningful work experience to students who are currently enrolled in any recognized post-secondary educational institutions. This engagement starts during the first week of May 2025 for four months, but we are open to extending until December if that is an option, especially under Co-Op arrangements.Successful candidates will be paid on hourly basis, and work may be up to 36.25 hours every week.The Opportunity

• Job Duties:

Laboratory Technologist to work on environmental genomics projects with our Environmental Impacts team, based out of Vegreville, Alberta. This position will support multiple genomics projects, including large collaborative projects between multiple organizations (e.g., the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute, Ducks Unlimited Canada, University of Alberta), and industry-funded projects.

• Background Required:

• Post-secondary student in Environmental Science, Ecology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related discipline, with experience in a lab environment.
• Ability to perform precise repetitive tasks accurately according to given protocols.
• Experience operating PCR, qPCR, or other molecular biology lab techniques.
• Experience with environmental DNA would be an asset.

• Physical Demands:

• Ability to work extended days in the laboratory (long periods of standing or sitting, repetitive tasks, etc.).
• Working with chemicals, laboratory equipment, etc., requires safe practices and attention to detail.
• If the student wants to gain experience with some of our other projects, there may be additional physical demands associated with greenhouse or field work, for example. But these activities would not represent a large part of their time.
