The Department of Medicine (DOM) is one of the largest in North America, with 830 full-time faculty members, 1,000 postgraduate trainees, and 20 specialty and sub-specialty divisions located across six fully-affiliated hospitals, four community-affiliated hospitals and more than a dozen additional clinical practice sites. As a Lab Technician in the Ostrowski Lab, you will play a key role in supporting innovative research by ensuring smooth laboratory operations and assisting with experimental design and execution. This position involves performing immunology experiments, including live cell imaging, flow cytometry, and blood processing, as well as setting up supplies and serving as a technical resource for staff and students. You will contribute to both the scientific and administrative aspects of the lab, maintaining high standards of safety, accuracy, and collaboration.

Your responsibilities will include:





Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the laboratory process Collecting experimental data, verifying results and passing on findings Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols Editing content for grant applications Ensuring the safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials while operating within close proximity to others Ordering supplies with approval Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment

Essential Qualifications:





Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in a laboratory or academic research environment Experience performing immunology experiments, including live cell imaging, flow cytometry, and blood processing Demonstrated experience processing samples for ELISA assays and conducting level 2 and level 3 laboratory experiments Experience supporting routine laboratory activities, including lab set-up, equipment upkeep, and ordering supplies Experience providing detailed explanations and demonstrating laboratory techniques, experimental procedures, and protocols to students and staff Experience editing content for grant applications and verifying the accuracy and completeness of submissions Strong organizational skills, including time management, multi-talking, and attention to detail
