The Role
We are seeking a
Laboratory Manager / Laboratory Technician
to support Maskunow's quality control program for roadbuilding, paving, and infrastructure projects. This role combines hands-on testing responsibilities with leadership opportunities to oversee day-to-day laboratory operations. Maskunow has just purchased a brand new lab that has equipment ordered, and yet to be installed or set up. This is anticipated to be a large task of the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that construction materials meet specification requirements and will contribute to Maskunow's reputation for quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct materials testing (asphalt, concrete, aggregates, soils) in accordance with CSA, ASTM, AASHTO, and CCIL standards.
Accurately record, interpret, and report results to project teams and clients.
Manage daily operations of the laboratory, including scheduling, staff guidance, and workflow coordination (for candidates in the Manager capacity).
Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory and field testing equipment.
Assist with field sampling, compaction testing, and site inspections as required.
Ensure quality assurance processes are followed and results are documented accurately.
Train, mentor, and supervise junior technicians where required.
Act as a technical resource for construction teams on quality control matters.
Promote and uphold Maskunow's commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or related field preferred.
8-15 years of experience in construction materials testing (asphalt, concrete, soils, aggregates).
CCIL certification or eligibility, previously having gone through certification procedures is a strong asset.
Strong technical knowledge of laboratory testing standards and procedures.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with digital data management systems is an asset.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within Saskatchewan.
