MacEwan University is seeking a Lab Technician, Equipment and Simulation for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Faculty of Nursing.


The Lab Technician, Equipment and Simulation is a resource to faculty, staff and students, and is accountable for the ordering, organization and coordination of equipment and supplies, as well as organization of the lab environment including simulation events and experiences. You will create requisitions and receive goods and services in the Clinical Simulation Centre (CSC) and support ongoing operations linked with provision of a safe and suitable simulated learning environment for students, faculty and staff.


Key responsibilities include:

Drawing on both short term (day to day) and long term (semester to semester) planning to ensure an appropriate range of resources are available; Utilizing the corporate online software system for purchasing procedures; Organizing and tracking calibration and maintenance of discipline specific instruments with the bio-medical specialists; Working with the scheduler(s) to provide information about lab space and equipment limitations pertinent to the scheduling of lab experiences; Working with Facilities to support and communicate to the Faculty, planned renovation implications as well as scheduled maintenance activities which impact scheduled learning activities; Seeking approvals for purchasing where needed from the Senior Lab Coordinator or Out of Scope Supervisor; Assisting faculty, staff and students with the use and operation of all equipment and supplies; Preparing for, supporting the implementation of, and leading the take-down/clean-up of simulated learning events; and Researching new equipment, materials and supplies and making staff and faculty aware of new brands and models.

Efficient and effective materials management skills; Proficient knowledge related to discipline-specific equipment and materials; Excellent organization, critical thinking, and communication skills; Proficient use of various systems and materials management software; Detail-oriented administrative support skills; The ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships; and Basic maintenance, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

QUALIFICATIONS



A minimum of a Diploma in a related health discipline. A minimum 2 years of materials management experience and 2 years of clinical experience in a health-related discipline. Post secondary lab experience is considered an asset. Experience with simulation equipment and healthcare related supplies, as well as implementation of both, would be considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
