Join the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks as a Lab Technical Support Officer and help maintain systems that drive environmental decision-making across Ontario. In this dynamic role, you'll support and maintain specialized laboratory systems such as the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) - critical tools that enable environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and emergency response. Your technical expertise will ensure our lab systems, applications, and equipment run smoothly, enabling scientists and specialists to produce critical results.

As part of our team, you will:
manage the acquisition, disposal, and tracking of IT assets, including computers, monitors, printers, and software, ensuring accurate inventory and reporting
support the certification, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of standard office software (e.g., Microsoft applications), non-standard software, and instrument controller hardware
troubleshoot and assist with the maintenance of the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS), coordinating with vendors and reporting to management
provide technical support for major lab applications (e.g., LIMS, EMS), including basic administration and user acceptance testing
manage and respond to branch-wide IT helpdesk tickets
What you bring to the team

Technical knowledge and skills
You can:
maintain and troubleshoot general office software (e.g., Microsoft Office applications) and lab-specific applications such as LIMS, EMS, and Quality Management systems
conduct user acceptance testing and quality assurance to ensure system reliability
assist in the development and rollout of new applications and upgrades aligned with lab and corporate needs
apply relational database principles to support data integrity and system functionality
manage IT help desk tickets across the branch
Hardware and software asset management
You can:
track and manage IT inventory, including computers, monitors, printers, and leased equipment
coordinate acquisition, refresh, and disposal of hardware and software assets
liaise with vendors and internal teams to ensure compatibility and compliance with lab requirements
support installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and certification of general office-related software (ex., Microsoft applications) and non-standard software used in lab environments
Communication and collaboration
You can:
communicate effectively with lab staff, IT teams, vendors, and senior management
translate technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation and training materials
deliver training sessions and provide ongoing support for lab-specific applications and IT processes
collaborate across departments to align IT services with operational needs
provide timely updates, feedback, and recommendations to stakeholders
IT governance and documentation standards
You can:
develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and quality documentation for IT-related processes
ensure compliance with government IT policies, security standards, and service protocols
prepare documentation for software installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
support alignment of lab-specific procedures with enterprise project and portfolio management tools
contribute to continuous improvement of IT service delivery through structured documentation and feedback
