Duties:





VIU's Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services is seeking individuals who are interested in a non-instructional Pharmacy Technician lab support role to deliver clinical skills courses within the Pharmacy Technician diploma program at the Cowichan campus for July and August 2026. The support technician is expected to work in collaboration with the course instructor.


Support lab course instructors to plan, and prepare for program courses; use creative adult learning strategies in the preparation and delivery of in-person clinical skills; providing support to students to ensure their success; working collaboratively with colleagues and industry partners.

This program is delivered in partnership with Selkirk College.



In this role you may provide support for one or more of the following courses:


PTEC 220 - Technology for Product Distribution PTEC 221 - Prescription Dispensing PTEC 223 - Institutional Dispensing and Sterile Product Preparation PTEC 224 - Non-Sterile compounding

Required Qualifications:




Licensed Regulated Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia Pharmacy Technician certificate or diploma from an appropriately accredited institution in Canada Current practice in an institutional pharmacy environment, including aseptic compounding, and/or current practice in a community pharmacy environment Solid understanding of the scope and role of pharmacy technicians in the health care system Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings Responsive to a diverse student population Demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning, and student success

To assist in PTEC 220 Technology for Product Distribution & PTEC 221 Prescription Dispensing Intake, the incumbents must be currently working in a Community setting and have a firm knowledge of KROLL and all Community based processes.



To assist in PTEC 223 Institutional Dispensing and Sterile Product Preparation, incumbents must be currently working in a hospital setting and be Certified in aseptic compounding techniques in accordance with the NAPRA Model Standards for Pharmacy Compounding of Sterile Preparations (hazardous and non-hazardous).



To assist in PTEC 224 Non-Sterile Compounding, incumbents must be currently working in a Community or Hospital setting and have a firm understanding of non-sterile compounding processes.


Preferred Qualifications:




The BC Provincial Instructor Diploma, or its equivalent, completed or in progress (maximum two years to completion) from an accredited institution; Experience teaching adults in a post-secondary setting; Familiarity with learning management systems (D2L) in an educational setting.
