The Chief Assistant is a senior support role in a Kumon Centre and plays a key part in maintaining daily operations and supporting student learning. This role typically involves a combination of administrative tasks, student support, and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Instruction
Guide students through their worksheets during class time
Mark and record student work with accuracy and speed
Provide encouragement and help explain concepts when appropriate
Supervise and maintain a quiet, focused learning environment
Administrative Duties
Record attendance and homework completion
Track worksheet progress and performance
Prepare worksheets for upcoming classes
Assist in grading and sorting corrections
Team Leadership
Supervise junior assistants and volunteers
Train new staff and assist with onboarding
Act as the main point of contact when the Instructor is unavailable
Customer Service & Communication
Greet students and parents
Answer basic questions about Kumon procedures and student progress
Communicate parent concerns to the Instructor
Qualifications:
High school diploma or currently in post-secondary education (preferred)
Strong academic skills in math and reading (typically up to Grade 10+)
Prior Kumon experience (as a student or assistant) is a strong asset
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented
Comfortable with children ages 3-14
Typical Schedule:
Part-time: 4-5 days per week depending on centre hours
Most work is during after-school hours (e.g., 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM) and on Saturday
